This merry month of May, indulge your creative side with a huge dose of arts and culture via the many exhibitions going on. For starters, head over to the Urbanscapes House to check out the immensely cool layout of art in the basement area. There’s also food and drinks available for sale while you’re there and a very interesting, immersive lights and sounds exhibit on the first floor.
If you’re a fan of the colourful and whimsical, Rafiee Ghani’s ‘Adventures in Wonderland’ exhibition would be right up your alley. His pieces are inspired from his trip to Morocco, so expect an explosion of colours and emotions from the talented artist’s works.
On the fine art front, Shalini Ganendra Fine Art Gallery will be presenting artist Bibi Chew’s solo exhibition called ‘What if…’ from 16 May – 16 July 2017. In this exhibition, the artist explores challenging through a series of normal objects put in a different light. Collective | Individuals by Urbanscapes
Possibly the biggest annual arts, music, food and culture festival happening in Kuala Lumpur, Urbanscapes 2017 is bigger and better than ever this year. In terms of art, you won’t want to miss the incredible collection on display at the Collective | Individuals exhibition right in the basement of the Urbanscapes House. Besides the fact that so many talented artists of different styles have come together to make it what it is, what’s really not-to-miss is the immersive and experiential arrangement of the artworks in the basement space.

What if… by Shalini Ganendra Fine Art
The fine art gallery proudly presents artist Bibi Chew’s latest solo exhibition since 2013, called ‘What if…’ In this collection, Bibi Chew explores her thoughts on challenging issues like race, environment and gender through familiar, everyday objects. Among the items she has used and transformed include leaf-wrapped bundles, eggs, glass bottles, butterfly catchers and coffee strainers to represent metaphors for marginalisation, destruction and containment.
The exhibition will run from 16 May – 16 July 2017.

Adventures in Wonderland by Vallette Gallery
Artist Rafiee Ghani presents his newest solo exhibition with pieces that drew inspiration from his trip to Morocco in 2014. Colourful, powerful and candid, the works will transport viewers to a wonderland between realism and phantasmagoria.
The exhibition will run from 17 May – 30 June 2017 at Vallette Gallery’s new space at The Row.

Ilham Contemporary Forum by Ilham Gallery
From 21 May – 8 October 2017, Ilham Gallery will be hosting a project exhibition that aims to be more of a prompt for debate and discussion than anything else. A number of curators have been selected, including Kat Rahmat, Mark Teh, Ridhwan Saidi, Ong Jo-lene, Tan Hui Koon, chi too and Azzad Diah Ahmad Zabidi. The works selected were given the criteria of being visual artworks or cultural projects that were created within the past eight years. The exhibition is a pilot project with the hope of it becoming a regular platform for the gallery.
