In conjunction with Merdeka month, Botanica+Co will be introducing four family sets that are perfect to share amongst your closest ones. Taste of the Kampong, The Maharajah’s Vegetarian Set, Bo+Co Chopsuey Indulgence, and The Brilliant Botanica Roast all feature homey and heritage flavours in line with our country’s independence day and the melting pot of culture we’re known for. Also part of the celebrations is a special dessert modelled after Malaysia’s national flower, the hibiscus. The Hibiscus Flower dessert will be available all through August and September, using organic hibiscus tea interpreted in three ways: the curd, macaron, and glaze. Paired with chocolate sponge cake and edible chocolate ‘soil’, this dessert is as delicious as it is symbolic.
Malaysia is up for yet another long weekend this coming Merdeka, so it’s time to celebrate in the way only we Malaysians know best: feasting. Over at W Kuala Lumpur hotel, there’s a whole host of activities going on, but we’re only going to focus on the exciting ones: a Moet & Chandon champagne brunch, to be exact. Held at Flock, you can expect only the best and locally-sourced ingredients for brunch paired with free-flow bubbly champagne, set against the backdrop of the city. It’s the best way to start a Sunday, in our opinion.
You already know Halcyon Days, a British royal heritage brand that made its debut in Malaysia just last year. The brand produces jewellery and lifestyle products that will surely enjoy a place in your home, from enamel bangles to watches for men and women, jewellery boxes, dining sets, and tea sets.
Channelling the British afternoon tea culture, Halcyon Days is partnering with Banyan Tree KL for a British Afternoon Tea special in August using tea sets from the former. Held on the 53rd floor in Altitude, the British Afternoon Tea set comes with a selection of classic sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and house jam, lemon meringue tart, the classically English Victoria Sandwich, Battenburg, sticky toffee pudding, apple crumble, and more. It’s not just a display of treats — most of these desserts have a fascinating backstory relating back to the history and identity of Halcyon Days.
From one afternoon tea set to another, this time we bring you for a thematic afternoon tea over at Mandarin Oriental KL. If you like strawberries, this is something you’ll need to try out. The hotel is introducing the Chitose Strawberry Afternoon Tea over at Lounge on the Park, featuring Chitose variants of strawberries specially cultivated in Cameron Highlands. Grown by Chitose Agri Laboratory, this subsidiary of a reputable biotechnology company in Japan produces not just premium Japanese strawberries but also vegetables.
True to its name, Chitose strawberries are featured nearly in all aspects of this afternoon tea menu. From sweet items including strawberry tarts to strawberry cheesecake, strawberry macaron, red velvet strawberry mousse and more, the tea set’s savoury items also feature strawberries in its ingredients, such as the strawberry bruschetta and grilled tuna with balsamic mayonnaise & strawberry caviar.
The Chitose Strawberry Afternoon Tea also comes with a free flow of hot beverages for two hours.
Following the success of its recent buy-1-free-1 Omakase menu, Nobu KL will be introducing a new promotion this month: Omakase For Two. From August through September 2020, guests who opt for the Omakase For Two set will enjoy a five-course meal featuring only the most premium ingredients.
To start off your five-course meal, you’ll be presented with Moriawase — a platter of assorted sashimi including oyster with caviar, scallop with foie gras, and cuts of chutoro with wasabi salsa. Next, you’ll have the Chef Selection Assorted Sushi, followed by the main course of Steamed Snapper with Black Bean Sauce. The pièce de résistance of the omakase menu will be the Grilled Prime Aged Ribeye, aged for 150 days and paired with Goma (white sesame seeds) Truffle Sauce for an enhanced, delectable flavour. The final course of the Omakase For Two meal is the Nobu Style Cheese Cake with Wild Berries Compote, a satisfying dessert to end the meal.
This Merdeka month, immerse yourself on a gastronomical journey steeped in Malaysian folklore and fables over at The St. Regis KL. This six-course tasting menu was crafted by Executive Sous Chef Norazizi Taslim, bringing it a level higher from its previous menu. Popular fables like “Puteri Gunung Ledang”, “Bawang Putih, Bawang Merah, “Nasi Menjadi Bunga”, and “Si Tanggang” are among the inspirations taken to design the menu, using local ingredients and flavours reinterpreted into a modern, fine dining style. Read our full review of the menu here.
