We’ve been scouring town for the best coffee spots and leading baristas that Kuala Lumpur has to offer, and this is what we found. Disclaimer: None of the editorial team was harmed in the process of writing this article — just heavily caffeinated.
While the taste of coffee is subjective, we’ve made sure that our curated recommendations are varied in terms of price, location, atmosphere, and of course — the beans they have to offer. We have the new kid on the block, Kopenhagen Coffee, which has been flooding our Instagram feeds as of late, thanks to its chic Scandinavian-inspired interiors. There’s also VCR, which at four years old isn’t a newbie to the scene, but recently opened another outlet in Bangsar. It also serves some pretty potent brews.
Here are our picks of the best 5 coffee spots in KL for a great cup of joe.

Peace, quiet, and soul-warming coffee can be found in this Scandinavian-inspired cafe. The space is beautifully minimalist, but it’s worth more than just an Instagram snap — it serves single-origin coffee with beans from local roaster Sprezzatura (in dainty Royal Copenhagen cups), as well as refreshing bottles of cold brew for a hot day.
A household name in the café scene, VCR has opened another spot in Bangsar. For those who can’t decide what to get, we recommend giving its coffee flight a shot, which gives you a full tasting experience of beans from different countries. Still not sure what you’re after? No problems, VCR’s hashtag has always been #AsktheBarista, after all.

Coffee is a precise craft, and Common Man sees it through every step of the way. It trades directly with the farmers to ensure perfection in every bean. Your coffee is then prepared by baristas on a custom designed Synesso espresso machine. If you’re more inclined to make your own cuppa, join the Common Man Coffee Roasters academy, where you’ll be trained by its own baristas.
