This Mother’s Day, treat your mum to a specially crafted degustation dinner complete with wine pairing at Enfin by James Won. The menu features three of Estates & Wines‘ most prestigious wines, which inspired the flavours of each dish. Here’s a preview to whet your appetite.
The meal kicks off with a dainty amuse bouche comprising a slice of earthy black truffle perched on charcoal bamboo breadcrumbs. Simple but delicious and fragrant, it makes for a lovely prelude to the feast. You’ll also delight in the restaurant’s signature “levain bread”, which is essentially a homemade bread that’s crusty on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
If you’re particularly excited about trying the wines, you won’t have to wait too long. Next up is a glass of Te Wahi 2014, the newest addition from the Cloudy Bay estate. This flavoursome pinot noir is complemented with a hearty calamari tagliatelle served with escargot, mollusks, red pepper and red wine reduction. The wine is framed by a bright acidity, which pairs beautifully with bursts of umami from the salmon ikura.
The menu features two mains, so you can be assured of leaving with a full tummy. For your second main, choose from either an Australian beef striploin with pommes puree, or a lamb rack with mushroom ketchup, minted pois and burdock chips. These are matched with Cheval des Andes 2012, a lush and complex wine with depth, giving toasted aromas of liquorice root and notes of ripe yellow fruits. Its tannins are supple and restrained, which makes it the perfect accompaniment to a succulent steak, or slightly gamey lamb rack.
