In our effort to achieve a little balance in our foodie life, we taste-tested a good mix of meats this week, starting with a black cod dish at Celestial Court, grilled Black Angus steak at Poolside, and a fun-sized tomato and serrano pintxos at Tiki Taka.
Steamed Black Cod with spinach and spicy chilli oil, topped with crispy shallots by Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur
The Dish: The fish was cooked so perfectly that the flesh could be pulled apart layer by layer. Incredibly fresh, the fish was smooth and soft with each bite. The chilli oil flavoured the dish perfectly, with the spice keeping each bite exciting. It was especially satisfying to have a little bit of everything — the fish, fried shallots, spinach and chilli oil — where all the different textures came together perfectly, starting with a slight crunch from the fried shallots.
The Place: Celestial Court is on level three of Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur. As you walk out of the elevators and turn right to the restaurant, a little gazebo with pretty Chinese decor functions as the welcoming area to the restaurant. Stepping in, you can choose to sit closer to the windows for natural daylight (great for taking pictures) or in the middle of the space for a more cosy affair. There’s also several private rooms that can fit up to 20 persons if you prefer a little more privacy.
Price: RM64 per portion

Grilled Black Angus steak by Poolside, Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur
The Dish: 160g of grilled Black Angus steak is presented on a bed of sweet potatoes, eggplant and zucchini, with a green variety of chimichurri dressing. If you don’t mention your preference, the steak is grilled until medium rare. We like the uncomplicated flavours of the grilled meat and vegetables that goes great with a tinge of sour herbiness from the dressing. Another great thing about this dish is the low calorie count, thanks to the grilled meat and the chef’s use of sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes.
The Place: Poolside is Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur’s poolside restaurant on level two. The main dining area is on a wooden platform just next to the pool. With soft jazz playing in the background and a nice evening breeze on your skin, this is a great, relaxing place to just chill. With a variety of health-conscious dishes recently added to the menu, snacking at Poolside isn’t limited to just chips and beer anymore.
Price: RM105 nett

Tomato and serrano pintxos at Tiki Taka
The Dish: Freshly-chopped tomatoes are spread on a slice of toasted baguette, topped with a beautiful cut of serrano ham and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. The tomatoes gave a very fresh and light flavour to the dish, while the tender serrano gives you a pleasant dash of saltiness. The whole combination just works wonders. Another two dishes we recommend you try at Tiki Taka are the Saffron & Squid Ink Pasta (RM22), and the Nutella Bacon pintxos (RM6).
The Place: The newly opened place has a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for after work get-togethers. It’s somewhere you can go to expect great food, drinks and music, top it off with good company and you’re set. There’s seats at the bar if that’s where you want to be, otherwise there’s outdoor seating as well for those who want to enjoy the evening breeze.
