Need a little midweek pick-me-up? We don’t know about you, but we enjoy indulging in new eats and drinks now and then to keep our enthusiasm for life in check. This time, we headed over to Arthur’s Bar & Grill at Shangri-la Hotel, Kuala Lumpur to check out its new menu offerings.
The Manhattan-style bar and grill is on the first floor of Shangri-la Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Besides serving up an irresistible beer promotion to lure happy hour folks, the setting of the bar itself is comfortable and relaxing enough to visit for a nice lunch or dinner treat. There are tables by the windows if you enjoy natural daylight, or cosy couches nearer the bar for a more intimate feel.
A crowd favourite, just the sight of the Australian Black Angus Prime Rib (RM115) was enough to blow us away when it arrived at our table. This picture doesn’t justify it, but the size of the dish was quite intimidating, and it’s easily shareable between two people, although intended for only one. The dish comes with your choice of two side dishes and sauces, and the crust around the prime rib is made of flour. We wished it had a little more flavour, but the meat itself fully makes up for any lack of. Our medium-cooked prime rib was juicy and incredibly tender with a satisfying amount of fat. The way the meat melted in our mouths is really something to shout about.
There are a selection of new items on the menu that includes classic dishes, new snacks and more desserts. We couldn’t resist trying the Chipotle chicken quesadilla (RM24) which had a nice little crunch on the outside while the chicken and cheese filling was salty, cheesy and tender in all the right ways. Our favourite snack, the Garlic prawns with dried chillies (RM34) was a punch of garlicky, spicy, toasted flavours blended together perfectly. We only wish we had some toasted baguette slices to soak up the delicious garlic sauce.
For a sweet ending, we had the Lemon tart in a jar (RM30) and the Tahitian vanilla crème brûlèe (RM35). Being fans of lemon tarts, we were delighted with the perfect balance of sweetness and sourness of the lemon custard that came in a little jar with some blueberries and a scoop of tangy, refreshing lime sorbet on the side. The lemon tart was sweet and satisfying, while the lime sorbet provided a nice zing to keep things exciting. As for the Tahitian vanilla crème brûlèe, it was perfect. The surface was a gorgeous golden with a good crunch, followed by the soft and creamy goodness below which had a nice level of sweetness.
Come for the food, beer and to relax. Being a bar and grill, it’s a great place to catch up with friends for happy hours, bring your client for a business meeting, or even just to have a self-indulgent meal.
