We will be welcoming a brand new year in less than two weeks. And what better way to usher the New Year than to spend it with those who matter most – family, friends and loved ones. If you think you’ve not done enough to show gratitude and affection to the ones you care for, this is the time to do so.

Restaurants around the city are offering some of the most tantalising festive menus with their own creative spin. From Japanese inspired cuisine to an Asian take on French cooking, you will be spoilt for choice when planning on where to go for a New Year’s Eve dinner. Here are our top picks on where you can dine and be merry this New Year’s Eve.

Nobu Kuala Lumpur

You can always count on Nobu to serve up really good Japanese food with a creative Peruvian twist — expect some tangy salsa and spicy undertones in its cooking. For New Year’s Eve, Nobu is putting up a 7-course omakase featuring some of its signature house-style dishes. Start with the Kinmedai Sashimi with Caviar and Sweet Onion Salsa — a beautiful blend of umami and savoury in a mouthful. Also in the menu is the Butter Poached Lobster. Each bite gives you a sense of slight smokiness and a really good texture from the perfectly cooked shellfish. Enjoy this dish with dark caramelised figs and a vibrant green watercress broth. Finish off with a quartet of sweet morsels — our favourite is the Wagashi made of sweet Japanese purple potato. There’s also a 5-course lunch omakase on the eve and New Year’s day if you have no plans in the daytime.

Marini's on 57

Before the celebrations kick in, enjoy an exquisite dinner at Marini’s on 57 with a hearty 10-course Italian menu courtesy of its founder, Chef Cavaliere Modesto Marini. Enjoy a series of canapes from duck liver pate on rye crackers to deep fried dumpling with salmon and crème fraîche before going for the first course — Capesante, Ostrica e Melone — comprising Hokkaido scallop, rockmelon, oyster mayonnaise and seaweed powder. Next, you’ll be served a Black Angus carpaccio with white truffles from Alba, Italy, and followed by a seabass ravioli with sea urchin, saffron and caviar. Save some space for the white truffle infused Carnaroli risotto (Risotto e Tartufo Bianco). For mains, enjoy both the caramelised codfish and wagyu. The last four items on the menu comprise mini cheese raclettes, white chocolate parfait, black forest and a classic Italian Panettone with mascarpone cheese sauce.

Cé La Vi Kuala Lumpur

Spend New Year’s Eve at the city’s most happening place, Cé La Vi. Enjoy a specially curated dinner menu at its restaurant with a 5-course meal that centres around Japanese cuisine. Start off with either the toro belly sashimi with caviar or scallop and uni carpaccio with herb oil and ponzu — we’d recommend the latter. The menu continues with an entre of Foie Gras with Raisin Sauce and Cod Fish Chowder with Truffle Crouton. There are three options for main courses — take your pick between the Wagyu Score 7 with seared scallop and tempura onion rings, lobster tail with saffron and miso butter or grilled Japanese seabream with red curry and fennel salad. Wash it all down with a chocolate and ginger souffle served alongside salted caramel ice cream. Book your seats early to have the best vantage points overlooking the gorgeous display of fireworks when the clock strikes 12.

Mr Chew's Chino Latino Bar

Mr. Chew’s Chino Latino Bar is hosting two New Year’s Eve dining experiences. The first seating starts at 6.00pm while the second begins at 8.30pm, both offer an elevated five-course tasting menu with an additional supper menu for the latter. Enjoy a generous selection of dishes including the sautéed Wagyu boneless short rib with yuzu aioli, pickled cucumber and popcorn shoot stuffed buns, tender lamb shank with palm heart and coconut curry, as well as chilli fried fish tofu with tiger prawns, green mango and kicap manis dressing — infusing some local Malaysian flavours into each dish. The supper menu which supplements the second seating comprises signature bites like Mr. Chew’s Famous chicken Ribs and Nori Tacos. Marble 8

Marble 8 is a premium steakhouse with a strong understanding and appreciation of dry- and wet-aged beef — serving the most exclusive world-class cuts cooked in custom-crafted grills. The restaurant, set against the city’s most desirable skyline is the best place to watch fireworks if you’re planning to stay until late. Its 7-course NYE menu is a luxurious treat that starts with an amuse bouche of Alaskan King Crab Salad on Toast with Citrus Dressing, and then accompanied by artichoke heart, cuttlefish, vegetable consommé and a classic beef tartare. For mains, choose between its signature Dry Aged Wagyu Rib Eye served with purple sweet potato and roasted garlic puree or Grilled Maine Lobster Tail with sides of shaved truffles, porcini mushrooms and asparagus. Completing the menu is a duo of desserts comprising a salted caramel mousse with popcorn ice cream and a spiced dark chocolate ganache tartlet with banana ice cream and yuzu sauce.

Beta KL has just launched a brand new menu to usher 2019. Enjoy two different set menus — Discovery that is a 5-course menu and Tour of Malaysia comprising six new items from Chef Raymond Tham. Start off with its signature hors d’oeuvre including  Sarawak Laksa, Karipap and Mushroom. There are plenty to choose from the menu with some of the crowd’s favourite being Tiger Prawn (perfumed with torched ginger flower and prawn head aioli), Spicy Garden (a cut salad with local herbs and fermented krills) and Duck (twice-cooked duck leg with gula Melaka).
