In a blink of an eye, 2018 has almost run its course. As we look back on the year, we can also look forward to what 2019 has to offer but before we get to that, there are still some bars in KL and PJ worth checking out. It’s also the season to be jolly.
While these bars are still too new to be part of the KL Bar Awards that just ended earlier this week, some of the places we’re about to suggest could do some serious damage in 2019. As always, the Klang Valley is no stranger to new bars popping up every other month; it’s safe to say we are a spoiled bunch when it comes to deciding on where to grab our next drink.
What’s great about the list of bars this month is its diversity. Ranging from a bar with a tailor inside to a Japanese-centric location, there is definitely something for everyone.
The latest addition to a long line of bars in Bangsar goes to The Cabinet, a cigar and whisky lounge. However, it strays away from the major crowd in Telawi and instead takes up residence along Lorong Maarof. Sticking true to its name, The Cabinet has a wide selection of both cigars and whisky. Ranging from blended scotch to single malts, this is a place for true whisky aficionados. If you prefer to have a cigar, The Cabinet has its own private room where one can indulge openly and freely. The interior décor also speaks volumes of The Cabinet with plenty of plush leather seating and wooden motifs.

Mrs Jones’ Parlour
Over the past year or so, we have seen the rise of gin bars in Malaysia as more and more locals are venturing away from the usual wine and whisky. In comes Mrs Jones’ Parlour, the latest gin bar in Petaling Jaya. The space carries very comfortable and homey vibe with its antique furniture strewn all over. Its gin selection is more than capable of living up to one’s expectations while also focusing on house-infused gin cocktails. There is even a wide array of tonics to choose from to go with your choice of gin. If you’re ever unsure, the bartender is always there to assist you.

Another Japanese bar has sprung up in the Klang Valley and this time, it’s located at Empire Damansara. Taking over the spot that was once The Bar Kinugawa, Iki_Ya brings together a collective zen-ness to its interior, allowing guests to feel welcomed from the moment they walk through the door. Being a Japanese bar, Iki_Ya focuses primarily on Japanese craft gins as well as shochu- and sake-based cocktails. One of the best things about Iki_Ya that not many bars would implore – there is no last call.

Malaysians bars are no stranger towards being creative with its concepts; BarTailor exudes that sentiment perfectly by incorporating both a cocktail bar with a bespoke tailor. The bar resides on the ground floor while the tailor takes up the upper space alongside a VIP section. Even the naming conventions of the cocktails take on a more sartorial touch, which makes it the perfect place to drop by for a drink once the fitting is complete.
