5 new bars that are worth a visit this October 2018

It seems that there will always be new bars popping up in the Klang Valley. Just last month we spoke about 6 new bars that are already available and now we have five more for you.

What’s great about the bar scene in Malaysia is its diversity; from your local watering holes to your upscale speakeasy ones, there is something for everyone for your night out partying and drinking. Of course, if you prefer to have a tipple in your own home, that is perfectly fine as well. With this many bars in and around the Klang Valley, it’s no surprise that some will slip under the radar.

Some of the bars listed this month are fairly new while others have been around for some time. Nonetheless, it is still worth paying a visit to, especially when one of the bars focuses primarily on vermouth. Another bar that is worth visiting shares the same location with Pacific Standard with it being a rooftop bar.

Lido Bar

Sharing the same spot as Pacific Standard is Lido Bar, the latest rooftop bar to grace the skyline of Kuala Lumpur. Located at the very top of Alila Bangsar, Lido Bar focuses more on its wine and beer whereas Pacific Standard is where one goes for its cocktails. Taking up the top three floors of Alila Bangsar, a breathtaking view of the panoramic backdrop of the city is all but assured. For now, it is going through its soft launch so any information regarding to Lido Bar is still limited. However, it is worth paying a visit as the location of Alila Bangsar is ideal for those who want a clear view of the many KL city skyscrapers.

Lido Bar, L42, Alila Bangsar, No. 58, Jalan Ang Seng, 50470 Kuala Lumpur.

Bar Shake

Touting itself to be the country’s first authentic Japanese-style cocktail bar, Bar Shake is looking to shake up the cocktail bar scene in Malaysia. Bar Shake also shares the same ownership and location alongside Sushi Ryu. This allows you to have the ultimate Japanese culinary and cocktail experience under one roof. While there are a few Japanese inspired cocktail bars in KL already, it is safe to say that Bar Shake is the first of its kind to offer a unique experience to the authentic Japanese-style cocktails.

Bar Zhen

A speakeasy in its own right, Bar Zhen knows how to keep itself hidden from the public eye, instead relying on word-of-mouth to get its name out. Sticking to its guns of being a speakeasy bar, Bar Zhen can be a little hard to locate if you don’t know what to look for. Here’s a tip: its entrance faces a mural of two birds. Located in an empty Chinatown alley, the entrance to Bar Zhen is unassuming but it’s a totally different ball game once you step in. The menu is short and sweet with many of its cocktails focusing towards Asian flavours while its dimly-lit ambience sets the mood for a long night in.

Los Flowerpecker

Los Flowerpecker is one of the few bars in the Klang Valley that seems to focus primarily on vermouth. Originally starting out in Bangsar as just The Flowerpecker, it has since moved to the popular district of Damansara Uptown where it has since discovered its Latin-American identity rather than just being a vermouth bar. Aside from vermouth, Los Flowerpecker’s menu concentrates on cocktails that has a low alcohol base volume (ABV). This allows many more patrons to enjoy its cocktails rather than utilising other spirits with a higher ABV content.

Man Tao Bar

Man Tao Bar is an unobtrusive rooftop bar in KL located at the very top of Stripes Hotel. Sticking to its namesake, Man Tao Bar is famous for its many variations of bar snacks with man tao (steamed buns). It also has its fair share of signature cocktails that are worth a go as well as beer for those who are looking for a more relaxed affair. Man Tao Bar isn’t your everyday rooftop bar; it places emphasis on providing a relaxing and calming atmosphere rather than a more party-centric vibe. It is the place to be if you’re looking for a quiet night with friends and sipping on various cocktails.
