With the festive season fast approaching, there’s no time like now to begin looking for the perfect gifts. Luckily for you, we have some suggestions on what could be a great gift that perhaps no one else in Malaysia could have: the latest Mumm Grand Cordon champagne. That’s because for five days only – 23 to 27 October 2019 – you’ll be able to sample this new champagne and purchase it before any other region in Southeast Asia. All this is happening at a pop-up store on Level 3, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur (near the Bukit Bintang Entrance).

 

What’s new about this bottle of champagne, we hear you ask? Plenty. The first and most obvious change in the Mumm Grand Cordon is its bottle. In place of a traditional label, the iconic red sash of G.H. Mumm has instead been indented directly onto the glass bottle, making for a powerful statement. Even the overall silhouette of the bottle has been carefully thought out by both the oenological team in Maison Mumm and designer Ross Lovegrove: the longer and slender neck is the most optimal shape it can be to accompany the development of aromas in the champagne.

As for the bubbles that reside within this stunning bottle, wine enthusiasts will be delighted to know that the quality is still the same, if not better. Using Maison Mumm’s signature grape of Pinot Noir, the Mumm Grand Cordon has been crafted from 300 Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier base wines sourced from over 100 different crus. This is to maintain the quality and consistency of the champagne’s flavour profile. The wine comprises 45% Pinot Noir for power and structure, 30% Chardonnay for elegance and minerality, 25% Pinot Meunier for more roundness and balance to the overall flavour, and a little addition of reserve wines for depth, complexity, and panache to the final blend.

The resulting champagne has exuberant bubbles and a brilliant golden hue. On the nose, there’s lush aromas of ripe peach, apricots, and pineapples with hints of vanilla and caramel. When you take the first sip, its flavours are intense and complex with notes of fresh fruit and caramel, continuing into a long finish on the palate. Taste the Mumm Grand Cordon for yourself at the brand’s pop up in Pavilion KL – it might even spur you enough to be one of the first few to purchase it in Malaysia before the actual public launch at the end of 2019.

Should you be planning on gifting it to some lucky people for the festive season, you can even purchase some G.H. Mumm champagne flutes and have them engraved for free. Also, visitors to the Mumm Grand Cordon pop up will stand a chance to win prizes from brand partners including b.space, Diptyque, Estée Lauder, Mercato, or brands from the Valiram Group.

During the pop-up, the Mumm Grand Cordon will be available at RM282 while the Mumm Cordon Rosé is priced at RM389.
