Petaling Jaya may not see as much night action as the KL city centre, but you can be sure that its offerings exude an equally superior quality. Take the bar scene, for example. It may be spread out across the many areas of the city, but if you know where to go, you won’t be disappointed.
That’s where our guide comes in. The bar guide to Petaling Jaya is designed for those who are far too tired (or lazy) to head all the way into town where the traffic is — both human and vehicle. The convenience of having a tipple in PJ, which is close to most homes, is that you only require a roughly 10-minute drive home. There are no big crowds to compete with and no noisy tourists to disrupt your good time.

Hop on over to The Great Beer Bar and get your dose of craft beer: stouts, hoppy ones, IPAs, and more. The Great Beer Bar is one of the several in the Klang Valley that offer a great variety of small brands and flavours that you might not be able to find at your regular resto-bar. Need some snacks to go with your craft beer? The Great Beer Bar offers a wide array of pork-based snacks and even a whole slab of pork belly.

If you have trouble locating The Locker & Loft, here’s a tip: the door is part of the array of metal lockers on the first floor of the shop lot. Inside, the variety of drinks is immense and even includes tapas and small bites. Want wine with your tapas? You got it. Fun cocktails to start the night with? That’s their specialty. What’s certain though, is the fun factor of the crew behind the bar.

Established nearly four years ago, Hyde at 53M was one of the first cocktail bars to open in Damansara Uptown. While it’s designed to be “hidden”, you won’t actually have much trouble locating it. The bar has two sections: a spacious outdoor and an air-conditioned indoor area. Hyde at 53M has a wide variety of cocktails, wines, and spirits. They also have barrel-aged cocktails available.

A sister bar of Hyde at 53M, 61 Monarchy is not too far away but boasts a slightly different clientele. Moving over from Bangsar to Damansara Uptown is Los Sombreros, helmed by Shawn Chong of Omakase + Appreciate. The bar is the Klang Valley’s first vermouth-focused bar as Chong attempts to change the people’s minds about this fortified wine. Try out various types of vermouth and tonics or go back to the familiar classics like the Pina Coladas and Margaritas.

Section 17’s latest resident is Mrs Jones’ Parlour, a gin-focused bar brought to you by the same people behind The Pawn Room and Private Room in TTDI.
