Welcome to Bar-United, KL’s first virtual drinking playground

Chivas Regal launches Bar-United, a virtual drinks platform for you to hang out, order cocktails, and more.

Miss hanging out at your favourite bars in KL with your friends? Us, too. Even though we’re currently in the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) period and are allowed to dine at restaurants and cafes, most bars are still not allowed to open due to restrictions. With the pandemic in place, it also doesn’t feel right to hang out in public with large crowds.

A number of us have resorted to being our own bartender by stocking up on alcohol supplies during the lockdown and even ordering some takeout cocktails. But deep down, there will always be a gaping hole that can only be filled with a thirsty night out. Enter Bar-United, a new drinking experienced championed by Chivas Regal.

What is Bar-United? It’s a virtual drinking playground that aims to bring together the bar community, from those behind the bar to the receiving end. Chivas Regal Malaysia has collaborated with several popular bars in the Klang Valley (with more to come) to bring back that spirit of drinking on a night out — except it’s done virtually this time around.

As you enter Bar-United’s website, you’ll find yourself in a virtual city. Head inside the bar and you’ll notice that it’s been laid out in several different areas. There’s the Hangout Arena, where there are several ‘tables’ are essentially chat groups that you can join. The ‘tables’ seat up to four people, and once you join the group you can access the video call and chat capabilities. There are even online games that you can play with your table-mates, and you can buy each other drinks. It’s a great way to get to know new friends, but if you want to keep things amongst friends, you can also make your table private.

Over on Bar-Tails, you’ll see some of Klang Valley’s most popular bars. While you’re here, select your bar of choice, followed by your bartender of choice, and then pick your desired cocktail to be delivered right to your doorstep. You can opt for immediate delivery or pick it up at the bar. As of now, participating bars include Astor Bar, 61 Monarchy, Hyde 53M, Three X Co, Dissolved Solids, Circa, Saro Lounge, Happy Stan and The Iron Fairies.

For something more educational, go on over to Bar-Talks, which will feature local and international personalities from different industries. Think along the lines of catching a virtual guest shift, a chat with special guests, personal anecdotes, and more. To give you an idea of what’s lined up, Chivas Regal Malaysia will be bringing in violinist Dennis Lau, bar owners like David Hans from Three X Co, and more.

Finally, we have The Marketplace — your one-stop solution to replenishing your dwindling supply of alcohol at home. At The Marketplace, you’ll be directed to Pernod Ricard’s Shopee page where you can purchase a variety of liquor that Pernod Ricard Malaysia supplies, from The Glenlivet whisky to Jacob Creek’s wines, and of course, Chivas Regal whisky.

But wait — there’s more. Obviously, there has to be some pull-factor that keeps you returning to Bar-United, just like how you keep going back to your favourite bar. Over here, it’s Bar-United Points. Guests can collect points through frequent purchasing and unlock achievements to redeem vouchers to be used in Bar-United as well as the participating bar outlets.

Sounds exciting to you? Bar-United officially launches on August 13th, and you can access your newest virtual watering hole here.
