Drink to the world’s good health.
The distillery, also known as the world’s most awarded single malt Scotch, has created a limited-edition whisky to support local Speyside causes, as well as communities hard hit by COVID-19. Labelled as “Spirit of Speyside Distillery Edition 2020”, the 450 bottles to be auctioned come from a single cask of Glenfiddich 2007. The auction is slated for 17 to 22 June 2020, hosted on whiskyauctioneer.com.
Bottled at a punchy 65.7 percent, the collectable whisky also comes signed and numbered by distiller Brian Kinsman. The dark, sultry ruby-coloured whisky touts a velveteen mouthfeel and notes of citrus, cinnamon, and Glenfiddich’s signature green apple touch.
“The local community has been at the heart of Glenfiddich since 1887 when William Grant opened our distillery in Dufftown,” said Struan Grant Ralph, the Glenfiddich Global Brand Ambassador. “We hope the release of the Spirit of Speyside Distillery Edition 2020 is a fitting tribute to William Grant and his legacy in the Speyside community.”
The whisky’s name also nods to the annual Spirit of Speyside festival, a mecca for whisky enthusiasts to gather and celebrate the storied drink. Though the physical festival is cancelled this year, its legacy lives via this very special expression.
100 percent of funds raised from sales of the Glenfiddich Spirit of Speyside 2020 whisky will be donated to Speyside businesses that have been heavily hit by COVID-19.
For those of us living abroad wondering why altruism towards Speyside matters when strife is rampant on home turf — Speyside is not just a place, it is the locus of Scotch whisky, and any assistance in that direction will help preserve an industry we cherish.
