This limited-edition Johnnie Walker Blue Label with a Penang design celebrates the heritage of the iconic Malaysian island.
Despite being a small island north of Malaysia, Penang has always gotten plenty of attention. From the food to politics and its burgeoning arts scene, the entire island itself is a tourist attraction. Now, Penang can add another notch to add to its belt – a limited-edition Johnnie Walker Blue Label with elements of Penang designed on its bottle and box.
Illustrated by artist Shan Jiang, the square bottle features three continuous facets of iconic Penang elements alongside the bottle’s label. The London-based illustrator has incorporated the Kek Lok Si Temple – Malaysia’s largest Buddhist temple – its red lanterns, and a dragon dance. With so many iconic Chinese elements on the bottle, it’s only natural that this limited-edition bottle would make the perfect gift for the upcoming Lunar New Year festivities.
Design aside, the spirit within the Johnnie Walker Blue Label with the Penang design remains the same one that we all know and love. A smooth mouthfeel coupled with notes of honey, hazelnut, oranges, and sherry fill the palate on the first sip. This is followed by flavours of ginger, sandalwood, dark chocolate, rich honey, and hints of pepper. But don’t take our word for it – everyone’s palates are different, which means that you might also be able to discover other tasting notes within the Blue Label whisky. What everyone will discover, however, is the long finish of the whisky with a soft smoky flavour.
In case you needed more options for gifting this Lunar New Year, the brand also has a limited-edition Johnnie Walker Blue Label Rat Pack in conjunction with this year’s zodiac sign, the Year of the Rat. As for something a little more premium – for yourself or perhaps a favourite family member – you can gift the limited-edition John Walker & Sons XR21 Phoenix Pack. Now you have plenty of reason to drink to a prosperous new year.
