At a cosy party hosted at The Vault KL earlier this month, we were treated to a first taste of the Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch — an entirely new, limited edition range of experimental whiskies. The brand continuously works to discover new flavours that challenge convention, while showcasing its Master Blender Jim Beveridge’s skills.
For the Blenders’ Batch, Beveridge drew inspiration from his experience of blending bourbon and rye in Kentucky in the ’90s. It was these experiments that led to the creation of this first Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch series. The first release in the Blenders’ Batch range is the Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Bourbon Cask and Rye Finish. As the name suggests, the new blend is a bold flavour combination from over 200 whisky samples. The liquid was aged in first-fill bourbon casks, then stored in former rye casks for up to six months.
The whiskies featured in this blend were taken from only five distilleries, which include Dufftown and the now-closed Port Dundas. The result is a beautiful fusion of intensely sweet flavours from bourbon and rye whiskies, brought together with the depth of a carefully crafted Scotch whisky.
The Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Bourbon Cask and Rye Finish is rich and warming, with an intense honeyed sweetness. Being a limited edition, each bottle is individually numbered and prices start from RM280 per bottle in Malaysia. Once you get your hands on a bottle, check out these 3 ways for you to enjoy your new fantastic blend.
