The sweet taste of success comes in many forms. Most recently, it has chosen to present itself in the exquisite expression of the newly launched Lagavulin 10 Year Old single malt scotch whisky. And to make it even more enticing, the spirit is only available exclusively for travellers at Dufry duty-free stores in specific international airports.
A prominent member of international distiller Diageo’s extensive family of illustrious whiskies, Lagavulin is renowned for its rich, smoky and elegant offerings. What sets this single malt apart, however, is its unique flavour — sweet, salty, spicy, and smoky all at the same time.
“This is a whisky filled with surprising contrasts,” said Dr Craig Wilson, Diageo’s master of malts. “On the palate, Lagavulin 10 Year Old is sweet and salty at first, before it builds to a fiery crescendo with a spicy and smoky finish that is both intense and warming. It’s best enjoyed neat or with water, which helps unlock some of the deeper layers of flavour.”
Crafted in a Diageo-owned distillery on the island of Islay, Scotland, the whisky has been matured in three distinctive casks that contribute to its unusual character. Elaborating on the production process, Wilson explained, “It is rich, intense and smoky, having spent time in American Oak casks, while a creamy smoothness and hint of spice shines through from its maturation in first-fill ex-bourbon casks.”
Lagavulin 10 Year Old is available exclusively from Dufry Travel Retail stores. It is bottled at 43% and is priced at RM253 for a 700ml bottle.
