You’ll also be able to have a look at the first and only complete privately-owned set of The Macallan Red Collection on public display in Asia here in The Macallan M Room at Astor Bar.

Fine whisky enthusiasts are going to be in for a treat. The Macallan and The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur hotel has just launched The Macallan M Room at Astor Bar, a luxurious sensorial experience perfect not just for seasoned whisky connoisseurs, but also budding whisky enthusiasts. Situated in a private lounge area within the Astor Bar in the hotel, this will be Malaysia’s first and only experiential whisky bar offering some of the finest ranges of single malts, limited-edition whiskies, new releases, and rare bottlings from The Macallan.

In fact, it’s only in The Macallan M Room at Astor Bar that you’ll be able to view first and only complete privately-owned set of The Macallan Red Collection on public display in Asia. To get an idea of how exclusive that is, we heard that you won’t even be able to purchase some of the bottles in the collection in Malaysia. Seeing as how certain bottlings from The Macallan have fetched extremely high prices in auctions, The Macallan Red Collection is definitely going to be worth a lot in the future.

The interior

Astor Bar is, on its own, already a refined-looking bar. But The Macallan M Room ups the ante with its plush sofas and gallery wall with art pieces and photographs by iconic photographer Terry O’Neill of the Rat Pack: Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin. Take a seat, settle in, and prepare yourself for an exclusive whisky experience.

The dram of your dreams

Guests in The Macallan M Room at Astor Bar will be able to try The Macallan x Astor Bar Flight Experience, which you can’t try anywhere else. The whisky flight consists of three drams of The Macallan whisky, and guests will be taken on a guided tasting session to know the spirit better and identify the different tasting notes in each whisky. To further enhance this experience, delectable Valrhona chocolate bonbons handcrafted by The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur will be served with the whisky flight. Do try these as you’re sipping the whisky — you’ll be able to taste a whole different world of flavours as compared to having the whisky neat.

Want something savoury after all the sweets? They’ve got you covered too. Inspired by the founders of the St. Regis, the Astors, the team at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur has also created a selection of savoury canapes like the foie gras terrine, cheese croquette, seared tuna with caviar, beetroot macaron with cream cheese, and more.

Even if you’re not trying The Macallan x Astor Bar Flight Experience, you’ll still be able to have The Macallan’s Serving Ritual for each order you place. This interesting serving ritual comprises The Macallan Bar Cart and the very intricate craft of creating the perfect ice ball for your whiskies. It’s a special ice ball maker made from aluminium alloy to compress and shape regular ice blocks into the perfect 65mm ice ball that won’t dilute your whisky as quickly.

The full luxury experience

In conjunction with The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur’s fifth anniversary, you can have an exclusive luxury experience comprising not just a stay at the hotel, but also the full experience that The Macallan has to offer. From the 6th to 8th of May 2021, guests booking the Suite package will be entitled to daily breakfast for two persons, a cinematic experience at The Screening Room with two expressions for two pax from The Macallan. Then, the two guests will journey through The Macallan Timeline Tunnel, followed by The Macallan x Astor Bar Flight Experience at The Macallan M Room at Astor Bar. Your whisky flight will consist of The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask, 12 Year Old Sherry Oak, and 15 Year Old Double Cask. Finally, the experience ends with a three-course dinner for two at The Brasserie. For room reservations, call +603 2727 1111 or email reservations.kualalumpur@stregis.com.
