Here’s how you can also help your favourite local bars stay open through the pandemic.
The William Grant & Sons (WG&S) family is shaking #StayHome routines up by introducing the 1887 Virtual Bar, the distiller’s first-ever virtual bar, created in response to the recent Covid-19 pandemic. It is also an interactive and sound way to help support the local bartending scene during unprecedented times, a sensible initiative by WG&S, who is the purveyor of brands like Glenfiddich, Hendrick’s Gin, Monkey Shoulder and The Balvenie.
Eponymously named after the year WG&S was founded, the virtual bar will feature weekly guest shifts hosted by familiar bartenders from your local bars, accompanied by the regional brand ambassadors of Hendrick’s Gin, Charmaine Thio and Glenfiddich, Brett Bayly.
1887 Virtual Bar, which will be conducted via Zoom, will start on 15 May 2020 at 8.00pm with a guest shift by bartender James Estes from PS150. Bartender from Three X Co, David Hans takes over on 22 May 2020 at 8pm, joined by WG&S ambassadors, to shake and stir their way to your hearts.
Stressing the importance of supporting one another, Managing Director for Southeast Asia, WG&S, Satya Sharma expresses: “With 1887 Virtual Bar, the William Grant & Sons family hopes to help our extended family in the local bartending community stay ‘open’ — both virtually in real life. We’re in this together and we’re fully committed to supporting our local bar partners, which is why we’ll also match the public’s donations dollar for dollar. We hope the community in Malaysia will tune in and take part.”
Those tuning in can make a donation and support these local bars by purchasing digital cocktail off the menu through the 1887 Virtual Bar website here. A total of four drinks will be showcased on the platform from each featured bar. These ‘cocktails’ can be redeemed at the bar when it opens.
