Concept cars have been a constant for quite some time now. Unfortunately, many remain the way they are — a concept that never sees the light of day.
Not if the brand is BMW. The German carmaker has brought concept cars to life in the past (as with the BMW i8) and they’ve done it again, this time with the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance
“Luxury has a whole new meaning. At BMW, we understand this as the ability to have time for you, for other people, and for other things. Luxury is the ability to define an experience. This new luxury was first unveiled at the BMW Luxury Excellence Pavilion through the BMW Concept 8 Series early this year. Now, we are proud to once again share this vision of progressive luxury through the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance,” said Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia at the car’s Southeast Asian debut in KL.
The latest concept vehicle from the BMW Group showcases its effort towards the luxury vehicle segment, which summarises the brand’s modern understanding of visionary mobility and progressive luxury. Known as a sports activity vehicle (SAV), the BMW Concept X7 features a design language like no other in the BMW X series. There are also nods to the signature BMW design, like the vertical front-end kidney grille with a matte surface for an added touch of grandeur.
The grille connects two slim and elongated headlights with BMW Laserlight technology featuring a blue X signature, another significant nod to its affiliation with the BMW SAV family. The BMW Concept X7 displays a certain physicality about its appearance alongside an athletic silhouette, accentuated by a long shoulder line. A first in the BMW X Series is its circular wheel arches, bringing out the sophisticated aesthetics to the flanks. The plug-in hybrid plays a heavy influence with the absence of a tailpipe.
Space isn’t a problem for the interior of the BMW Concept X7, featuring a high ceiling that boasts a sophisticated ambience, expelling comfort of the highest degree. The ceiling holds a glass panoramic roof, which extends to the second row in a Y structure. There are a total of six proportioned seats arranged in three rows, four of which carry an exclusive individual design. This allows every passenger within the BMW Concept X7 will experience the same sensation of freedom as the next one.
The seats in question are in smoke-white leather while the seat bolsters are a dark, olive-bronze leather with discreet gold pigmentation; a stark contrast that will have you gawking the moment the doors open. The remainder of the BMW Concept X7 has a selective use open-pore ash in a dark-stained, matte finish. Other elements like polished aluminium and matte are also added to further highlight the level of elegance the BMW Concept X7 carries.
With one eye towards the future, the BMW Concept X7 carries a futuristic 12.3-inch instrument cluster screen with a central touchscreen information display to boot. Backseat passengers will also be given state-of-the-art infotainment via rear-set touchscreen displays. Through BMW Connected, this allows seamless infotainment integration between the front and second row.
With the latest technological innovations at its disposal, the BMW Concept X7 shows that BMW is on the right path. It will be available come 2019 with an electrified drivetrain and digital connectivity.
