Mini Malaysia has introduced three new variations of the Mini into the Malaysian market; featuring the latest in engine and transmission technology from the BMW Group. These consist of the new Mini Cooper S 3 Door, the Mini Cooper S 5 Door, and the Mini John Cooper Works.
Despite their names, the new Mini models don’t have three or five doors respectively. It basically means that the Mini 3 Door is a two-seater with the third door attached to the rear while the Mini 5 Door is a four-seater with the fifth door at the back.
The new Mini engines are made 13% lighter thanks to an engine cover made with Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP). This reduces its total weight distribution up to eight kilograms. A first in the family includes a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Steptronic Sports Transmission and an electronic gear shifter. This also helps in reducing CO2 emission and fuel consumption, thanks to its expanded gears and bigger gear shift spacing.
Performance-wise, both the Mini Cooper S 3 Door and Mini Cooper S 5 Door are powered with a 2.0 -litre 4-cylinder Mini TwinPower Turbo Engine. Both cars deliver up to 192hp and 280Nm of torque with a top speed of 235km/h. On a century run, the Mini Cooper S 3 Door clocks in at 6.7 seconds while the Mini Cooper S 5 Door does 0-100km/h in 6.8 seconds.
The infotainment system carries a 6.5-inch HD touchscreen display, which can also be controlled with the Mini controller. There is also Mini Connected, which can connect with the Mini Connected smartphone app. The app helps you track of the car’s fuel consumption, fuel range, and last known location. The Mini Cooper S 5 Door also comes with a new feature, the John Cooper Works Aerodynamics Kit with a new rear-end spoiler.
Lastly is the Mini John Cooper Works, a car in its own division with several exclusive features made specifically for it. Besides sporting a new Piano Black Trim, it also comes with 18-inch John Cooper Works Cup Spoke 2-Tone and John Cooper Works Bonnet Stripes. While it features the same 2.0-litre 4-Cylinder Mini TwinPower Turbo Engine, the Mini John Cooper Works generates 231hp and 320Nm of torque.
The performance-enhanced Mini John Cooper Works also comes with an 8-speed Steptronic Sports Automatic Transmission. This allows it to hit a top speed of 246km/h with extreme ease. To keep up with its tenacity, the car will also come with Dinamica Leather John Cooper Works Racing Seats and stainless-steel pedals.
The Mini John Cooper Works also comes with a larger infotainment display at 8.8-inches. There is also Natural Language Recognition, capable of understanding a wide range of languages and abbreviations. If you ever needed to charge your smartphone, the Mini John Cooper Works also comes with wireless charging capabilities on the centre armrest.
The Mini Cooper S 3 Door retails at RM226,888.00 while the Mini Cooper S 5 Door will be selling at RM236,888.00. The Mini John Cooper Works will be available at RM283,888.00.
