If the Hermes Birkin bag is a pinnacle of luxury fashion that most would aspire to attain, then we reckon the automobile equivalent would be the Mercedes-Benz S400h. A firm favourite of the luxury car market, we took the S400h for a drive recently and saw for ourselves why it sits at the top of the pinnacle.
The Mercedes-Benz S400h was recently given an AMG Line styling package, upgrading the look from luxe to luxe-sporty. On the road, the limousine commandeers a strong presence — that much can be seen, thanks to the powerful AMG body styling, distinctive 48.3 cm AMG light-alloy wheels, and two visible tailpipes. Whether you’re cruising it down the highway or sitting regally in traffic, all eyes will be on you.
On the topic of being in traffic, the S400h makes getting stuck in one a comfortable experience. Thanks to its double glazed windows, we were able to revel in the quietness of the car despite being in noisy traffic. The longer silhouette of the car, while a pain for the driver, made the back seat passengers more comfortable thanks to the extra legroom.
Should you opt for the chauffeur package, you will get the following in your S400h: rear seat bench with electrically adjustable outer seats, rear seats with memory function, front “easy adjust” head restraints and chauffeur position for the front passenger. It may seem like little tweaks, but the results are significant.
Sitting in the back seat, be prepared to be amazed by Mercedes-Benz’s long-running expertise in luxurious comfort. It’s not about how expensive the leather is on the seats, but the subtle way the seat is sculpted and how the headrests give you comfort you never thought would be possible inside a car. Plus, we certainly can’t complain about how the back seat intuitively reclines and extends itself at the push of a button.
Truly, the S400h is a vehicle that you should get for your driver, for it’s a car meant to be driven in. At the same time, it’s not to say that the automobile falls short in terms of performance, because it doesn’t. The AMG Line upgrade boasts 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated V6 engines with a power of 306hp at 6,500rpm and a torque of 370Nm between 3,500 – 5,250rpm. When needed, the S400h can go from 0-100kph in 6.8 seconds and has a top speed of 250kph. All the faster to head to your meetings with.
Despite the S400h’s sporty AMG Line upgrade, the fact remains that it’s a luxury automobile designed to be chauffeured in. So kick back and relax — the driver’s got this one.
