When one thinks of exotic sports cars, they think sleek-looking vehicles with enough horses to outrun anything. With many exotic carmakers boasting its own range of sports cars, it can be difficult to pick one that suits you. The likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini come to mind; powerful beasts that turn heads the moment you start the engine. However, one carmaker that shouldn’t be overlooked is Maserati, especially when it comes to the Ghibli S.
Maserati’s tagline is simple: “Luxury, sports, and style cast in exclusive cars”. Those three features encompass the very nature of the Ghibli S. When taking it for a spin around town, it’s easy to see the effect and appeal the Ghibli S has on people. While not many may know which Maserati car it is specifically, there’s no mistaking the iconic Trident design from the get-go.
The Maserati Ghibli S is one of the greatest four-door coupes to ever hit the market. It brings luxury designs with a sporty element to the centre stage, which is evident on both the exterior and the interior. It’s graceful yet assertive, offering something very different as compared to many other carmakers around the world.
One of the most obvious traits of a Maserati car would be its Trident that takes up the space front and centre on the grille. Another would be the elongated front section, which is where the engine is stored. Lastly, would be the signature three air vents on both sides of the car.
The interior of the Maserati Ghibli S is also not to be missed. It blends seamlessly with the exterior design, complementing one another to the last detail.
Intricate Interior Detailing
The interior of the Ghibli S is all about travelling in comfort and style. In true Italian fashion, the cabin features elegant and handcrafted stitching as well as finishing. One of its signature traits is having the Trident embroidered or embossed onto the headrest.
The entire upholstery of the cabin features handstitched detailing, which holds together the premium perforated leather. If you’re looking for an upgrade, you can also opt for either the Zegna silk upholstery or the Pieno Fiore natural leather. As for the trim, you can choose between high-gloss carbon fibre twill or high-gloss Rovere wood veneer.
As expected, the Maserati Ghibli S is riddled with many modern-day technologies. This is evident in its 8.4-inch multi-touchscreen display with centre console rotary control. This allows you to control take control of all the inner workings of the car. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available in the Ghibli S as well.
This connects certain apps like Spotify and Waze to the car’s touchscreen display, giving you a wider and more detailed view than your phone is capable of. If you’re looking to jam out to some tunes, the Ghibli S also comes with a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System. The audio quality within the cabin is divine; crank up any song and it’s almost like you’re hearing it live.
Pedal to the Metal
The Maserati Ghibli S is first and foremost the high-performance variant in the Ghibli lineup. Its engine was developed by Ferrari at its Maranello factory in Italy. This ensures that it still holds the same level of performance you can find in the Prancing Horse.
At the heart of the car lies a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, putting out 424hp and 580Nm of torque. It takes just 4.9 seconds to go from 0-100kph with a top speed of 286kph. While that may not sound like much, the Ghibli S is a great everyday car due to its different driving modes — Normal, Sport, Off-Road, and ICE (Increased Control & Efficiency).
Taking it onto the highway was a dream; it responds to the slightest of touches onto the pedal. When pushed to the limit, the car roars to life while ensuring you’re still in good hands behind the wheel. Taking sharp corners and turns become a walk in the park for the Ghibli S as well due to its easy handling and manoeuvrability.
Safety means a great deal to Maserati as well. The Ghibli S comes with a host of safety features that allows you to enjoy the car at its fullest extent without wrecking it. The ‘Highway Assist System’ (HAS) detects various vehicles and other obstacles on the highway and will assist the driver at all times for greater convenience. Other safety features include ‘Lane Keeping Assist’ as well as ‘Active Blind Spot Assist’.
Cruise control is also available in the Ghibli S as well as a forward collision sensor, a 360° surround-view camera, and even a traffic sign recognition camera.
All in all, the Maserati Ghibli S encapsulates everything one loves about a sporty yet elegant four-door coupe. For a little over RM700,000, the Ghibli S can be all yours. It’s a perfect car for your everyday drive as well as great for taking on road trips. It’s comfortable, elegant, and powerful all at the same time, making it an affordable exotic sports car for many.
