The Ford Ranger Raptor is every off-roaders dream

Pick-up trucks are a different kind of luxury. While it may not look the part, pick-up trucks provide a more practical and convenient approach. With many brands carrying its own iteration, one that deserves recognition for its many years of service in that segment is the Ford Ranger. Being one of the major go-to brands, its latest offering comes in the form of the Ford Ranger Raptor.

The Ford Ranger Raptor is only the second of a high-performance pick-up truck after the Ford F-150 Raptor

Made for elevating the off-roading segment of cars, the Ford Ranger Raptor was four years in the making and is only the second in high-performance pick-up trucks after the Ford F-150 Raptor. Built for being a compact, all-terrain pick-up, the Ford Ranger Raptor proves itself to be leaps and bounds ahead of its competitors.

The Ford Ranger Raptor is made for any and every terrain

The Raptor sports the huge FORD wording on its hexagonal-shaped front grille. This is flanked by two xenon LED headlights and two LED projector fog lamps for greater vision. Off-road vehicles are built to be sturdy while withstanding plenty of damage, that is what the Raptor is all about. Sporting 17-inch Raptor-specific all-terrain tyres, there are also aluminium side steps on the sides of the vehicle that protect the chassis from any off-roading activities.

Hiding under the hood, the Ford Ranger Raptor houses a brand new 2.0-litre EcoBlue bi-turbo diesel engine 210hp and 500Nm of torque. Even its transmission is brand new with a Getrag 10R80 10-speed automatic. For all its trucking capabilities, the Raptor can carry up to 2,500kg in a single load. The car also gets a ride height upgrade of 150mm and ground clearance of 50mm. This allows it to better cross any terrain with ease without damaging its undercarriage.

It’s leather-wrapped steering wheel also comes with a red 12 o’clock marker

There are also six driving modes for the Raptor known as the Terrain Management System. This allows you to change between different driving modes for different types of terrain. While ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’ is for your day-to-day drive on the road, there is also a mode for grass, gravel, and snow. Other types of terrain that’s great for the Raptor include mud, sand and Baja driving.

The leather upholstery comes with its own Raptor embroidery

On the inside, the Ford Ranger Raptor features a heavy use of leather, mainly on its steering wheel and its Alcantara sports seats. It also comes with a SYNC 3 infotainment system that is compatible with both Android and iOS devices for greater versatility. Through the infotainment system sits a display screen that also doubles for the rear-view camera.

While already available in certain countries, the Ford Ranger Raptor will be making its official debut in November during the Kuala Lumpur Motor Show 2018.
