Luxury sedans are the cream of the crop when it comes to the mainstream market. It’s comfortable and practical, allowing you to get from one destination to another. It also helps that there’s probably enough horses underneath for you to have some fun with on the highways. The Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC is the latest and greatest to come out from the German luxury automaker, turning the entire market over its head in the process.
The Mercedes-AMG A 35 builds on the current AMG model range with its latest entry-level luxury sedan, much like its four-door coupé counterparts. It was built to appeal towards the younger generation who are looking for a high-performance luxury car without having to break the bank.
It comes with a 2,729mm wheelbase, which displays the powerful proportions of the car. Its dynamic and compact design features sporty short overhangs on the front and rear of the car. This includes the signature AMG design language like its twin louvres on the radiator grille and the front splitter and silver chrome trim elements. As for its tyres — 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels. Mercedes-Benz also brings back its illuminated door sill panels with its namesake lettering.
At heart of the car rests a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine, boasting greater response times to the accelerator pedal commands. The engine produces 306hp with 400Nm of torque from 3,000rpm with high tractive power. This gives it a livelier response with your typical AMG engine purr. It takes only 4.8 seconds for it to go from 0-100kph, which is thanks to the Mercedes-AMG specific 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.
Moving on into the interior, the Mercedes-AMG A 35 features ARTICO man-made leather with DINAMICA microfibres on its seats. Red and black contrasting topstitching is prevalent in the upholstery to showcase AMG’s presence as well. To further enhance the interior is the new and distinct AMG centre console with a touchpad and switch that controls the manual transmission mode alongside the electronic stability control (ESC).
The MBUX entertainment system also makes an appearance, combining a sporty design with an intuitive user interface. The Mercedes-AMG A 35 now houses a shared glass cover combining the central and cockpit display screen to give it a more seamless look and feel. As usual, a cluster of controls is readily available on the steering wheel, which gives you direct access to phone calls and even the multimedia system. As a bonus, wireless charging is available on-board the car for devices that are Qi-enabled.
