A few days ago, we had the pleasure of test driving the new Audi A4 1.4 TFSI just before the Audi A4 IntenCity roadshow that will hit Ipoh on 4 June 2017 before ending in Penang on 10 June.

The Audi A4 1.4 TFSI represents the entry-point into the Audi A4 family, and we eagerly took up the chance to drive it around for three days (who wouldn’t?).

Audi A4 1.4
The 1.4 litre TFSI engine may be small, but it sure packs a punch.

The heart of the machine is a 1.4-litre TFSI engine with a 7-speed S tronic transmission that produces 150hp and 250Nm of torque between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm. This dynamic combination means the Audi A4 1.4 is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 8.5 seconds.

In terms of fuel consumption, its smaller engine capacity means that this model is frugal in this department, using just 5.2 litres for every 100 km, while its CO2 emissions are 119 g/km. The Audi A4 1.4 TFSI uses an inline 4-cylinder with direct injection, exhaust turbocharger and Audi valvelift system.

While we didn’t have the chance to test its full capabilities by going from 0 to 100 km/h, the surge of power when we pressed down on the accelerator was proof enough for us — and certainly made overtaking on the highway a breeze. Switching from auto to manual was as simple as flicking the gear stick from right to left, while the shift paddles on either side of the steering wheel made changing gears very easy. The only thing missing was a reverse camera, which would have come in handy for parking, as the car’s body is quite long and large.

The comfortable leather seats with 4-way lumbar support and ample legroom in the rear leave little to long for.

On the inside, the car is a delight. The interior features leather upholstery while the leather seats are fitted with a 4-way lumbar support for maximum comfort. Front seats are electronically adjustable. As for infotainment, the Audi A4 1.4 TFSI uses the MMI Radio plus Audi Sound System — a six-channel amplifier with 10 loudspeakers.

For all of you who stream Spotify while driving, the Bluetooth interface is easy enough to use. It connected with our phones without any hassle, so we were able to go for a spin to the soundtrack of our favourite tunes. Audio is clear on Bluetooth, better if you’re using the USB port, and perfectly audible when making a phone call via Bluetooth. There’s also the voice control function that we found handy when switching between tracks.

Audi A4 1.4 TFSI
A sleek business sedan with a slightly sporty vibe.

The front of the car is relatively wide, 1,842 mm to be exact, and together with the front grille, projects a sporty vibe that we like. The wheels are cast aluminium with a 10-spoke crystal design. All in all, we like how the drive is as smooth as velvet on Comfort mode while maintaining a comfortable suspension even on Dynamic. Parking might be just a bit challenging given the size of the car, and the infamously small carparks in certain areas of KL, but the pleasure of the ride makes up for any of that.

The Audi A4 1.4 TFSI is available in seven colours: Glacier White, Floret Silver, Scuba Blue (pictured above), Monsoon Grey, Tango Red, Argus Brown and Mythos Black, and is priced starting from RM218,900.
