There’s nothing more romantic than spending it in the great outdoors. Vanessa Tevi, Miss Universe Malaysia 2015, and her boyfriend Ismael Ma, spent a sun-kissed weekend in the beautiful Tanjong Jara Resort by YTL Hotels. Located in Terengganu and set along the tranquil South China Sea, this luxury resort is surrounded by a lush tropical forest and just 8km from the lively Rantau Abang Beach.
Explore what Tanjong Jara Resort has to offer with the lovebirds, from learning tai chi, relaxing spa sessions to a romantic private dinner.
Day 1 – 2pm
Vanessa & Ismael: After a three hour drive from KL and an exciting couple of days during the Chinese New Year, we checked-in, and got ourselves ready for a couple’s spa session which started with a ‘mandi bunga’ and ended with a nice steam bath.
Day 2 – 8:30am
Vanessa & Ismael: Started our second day at the resort with some Sucimurni exercise where we left with the biggest smiles (due to a laughing exercise!). Our local instructor had us ready to start our day with a combination of moves from yoga, silat as well as tai chi. We’ve never done tai chi or silat before, but it was a pretty interesting combination!
Vanessa: While I was really looking forward to our picnic lunch, silly boy Ismael wasn’t too much because he thought we were going to be sitting under the sun for our little picnic. To our surprise, we absolutely loved the set up under the shady gazebo. We had an actual picnic basket with plenty of fresh fruits, cheese, sandwiches and fresh coconut water. Perfect picnic and set up with the perfect company.
Vanessa: The wind grazing slowly against the curtains of the gazebo echo’s the relaxing and romantic vibe that surrounds the beach. Good place to take a break from the hot sun!
Ismael: A short bike ride at a fishing village nearby the resort had us witnessing the locals playing a game of football in the fading light of day. We even got some keropok lekor (fried fish sausages) and pisang goreng (fried banana) for snacks.
Vanessa & Ismael: A private fine dining dinner experience by the beach.
Day 3 – Morning
Ismael: Day 3, I was on a mission to catch first light. Woke up to this beautiful sight instead. Gloomy weather with rain and a soft glow highlighting Pulau Tenggol in the distance.
Vanessa & Ismael: Meet Chef Ann and Mr. not-so-lucky squid during our Saturday morning visit to the market. If you ever visit Tanjong Jara, please make sure you stop by Di Atas Sungei Restaurant to dine in with their famous talking Chef aka Chef Ann. She has such a delightful personality and not to mention, the dishes she recommended were so tantalising. Tip: Butter prawns. They were so fresh, juicy and UBER tasty.
Vanessa & Ismael: Far left of the resort’s private beach were these beautiful rock formations. Reminiscing the sound of the waves hitting the rocks and witnessing the setting sun really brought us back.
Day 4 – Sunrise
Ismael: Day 4 welcomed me with grace. Early bird gets that worm.
Ismael: Sometimes, a new perspective can be intriguing. The view from Di Atas Sungei Restaurant during breakfast on our last day.
Vanessa: Tried to capture this shot as ‘cool’ as possible and I hope I managed. The infinity pool overlooked the blue sea and it was quite hard resisting to create a beautiful shot especially when the sun was shining so bright for us on our last day there.
