If you haven’t already checked out Malaysian-born actor and model , you should. To give you a little insight to the handsome lad, we spoke to John about who inspires him, what keeps him going, and what he enjoys about acting.
LifestyleAsia (LSA): Have you always wanted to be an actor?
John Tan (JT): Honestly, it never crossed my mind until I was given the opportunity to be part of a theatre production in 2013 and soon after that I was lucky enough to have been given a role in the movie You Mean the World to Me by Saw Teong Hin.
LSA: What do you enjoy about acting?
JT: Getting to experience different emotions throughout the process, like expressing anger, sadness, happiness and so on. Also, playing different kinds of roles and characters.
LSA: Do you enjoy cooking, especially because you’re health-conscious?
JT: I love my home-cooked meals. I really enjoy creating healthy meals with different kind of ingredients which is why I spend most of my time at home in the kitchen preparing my daily essentials.
LSA: Is there somebody who inspires you? Who is that and why?
JT: That would definitely be my mother. She’s brought me up to be the person that I am today. She’s very understanding and supportive in the choices her children make, and I have a lot of appreciation and respect for that.
LSA: What keeps you going/motivates you to do the best you can?
JT: Meeting different people from different walks of life. Everyday I’m learning and discovering new things. Through this, I am driven to bring out the best in me to achieve my aspirations.
LSA: What do you do for fun?
Keeping active is essential for my soul. I enjoy any kind of activity that keeps my adrenaline going, so that usually means extreme sports. I am also a wanderluster at heart; exploring the world provides me priceless knowledge and experience.
LSA: How would you describe your personal style?
JT: Minimalistic, I’d say. I love my basics! Simple and stylish, in my opinion.
LSA: Do you like children? Any plans to have your own family soon?
JT: Of course! I’m paying full attention to and focusing on my career, but I don’t see why not at some point in the future.
