The BMW X5 xDrive 45e M Sport is the latest plug-in hybrid to hit the market

More and more luxury carmakers are moving towards a more sustainable future. One of those brands at the forefront is BMW with its latest plug-in hybrid SAV, the X5 xDrive45e M Sport.

It will be a direct replacement of the current X5 xDrive40e, featuring a new 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine with an electric motor and complete with the BMW eDrive technology. The combined maximum output of 394hp and 600Nm of torque puts the BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport in a class of its own.

The all-new BMW X5 xDrive 45e is only the second-generation plug-in hybrid SAV for the Munich-based luxury carmaker.

As for its electrical motor, it also receives an upgrade from its predecessor in the form of 113hp. The all-new X5 xDrive45e M Sport now has an electric range of up to 77km with a top speed of 135kph. Driving performance is a key component in BMW; the all-new BMW X5 plug-in hybrid can hit a top speed of 235kph and goes from zero to 100 in just 5.6 seconds.

In comparison, the previous X5 xDrive40e only had a total output of 313hp and 450Nm of torque. Being the first core brand PHEV, it had a modest performance rating at its time of deployment. The X5 xDrive40e could go up to 120kph in EV mode with around 30km of coverage on a single charge.

Moving inside, the BMW X5 plug-in hybrid can fit up to five passengers within the cabin, which already boasts premium leather-wrapped upholstery and dashboard alongside large swaths of wood. At the centre of it all is the large control display that rests right above the centre air vents and control centre. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional with gesture control combines its 12.3-inch fully digital instrument display with an equally large touchscreen display. There is also a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system to keep you company on your journeys.

As for the Intelligent Personal Assistant, it’s a blend between voice recognition and artificial intelligence, allowing you to have better control and command over your car with just your voice. The Munich firm ensures its digital concierge is able to handle it all.

The entire driving experience for its luxury SAV focuses on safety and convenience. The BMW Personal Copilot keeps you steady the entire drive through with various safety features like Lane Departure Warning and Lane Changing Warning. Intelligent Parking Assistance Plus alongside Reverse Assistant ensures your parking skills are unparalleled.

The BMW X5 xDrive 45e is now available on our roads at RM440,745. Be sure to head to BMW Malaysia’s website for a test-drive or to find out more. You can also immerse into the X5 xDrive 45e through BMW’s very own augmented reality (AR) tour, which is best experienced through mobile devices.
