Taste the Big Apple with The Macallan Distil Your World New York

The Macallan releases a special limited edition single malt whisky — Distil Your World New York — taking you on a sensorial journey through the one of the most iconic cities in the world in collaboration with the renowned Roca brothers.

The Macallan Distil Your World documentary series traverses the world. Through the art of voyage and the spirit of gastronomy, The Macallan continues to uncover the essence of leading destinations globally.

And this time around, in collaboration with long-standing partners, the Roca brothers — Joan, Josep and Jordi — who are owners of El Celler de Can Roca (named best restaurant in the world twice), The Macallan introduces the limited edition single malt whisky, Distil Your World New York.

Enter the concrete jungle where dreams are made of as you indulge in the distinct personality of the cities in New York — from Brooklyn’s vibrant indie scene and Harlem’s flair to the upbeat culture of Manhattan and the industrially hip Tribeca. It is right there at the heart of New York City that renowned Michelin-starred Roca brothers and The Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan find inspiration as they travelled to New York to uncover the mastery behind New York.

In their quest to uncover the essence of the city, they encounter New Yorkers who are experts in the fields of graffiti, jazz music, sustainable fashion and visual art. From the labyrinthine streets to the city’s towering architecture, its colourful art scene and culinary eclecticism, these elements are expressed into an unparalleled single malt Scotch whisky that artfully bottles the city’s distinct creative spirit and vibrant culinary codes.

Tasting the Big Apple

Drawing from these inspirations, Polly and the Roca brothers crafted a distinctive whisky that builds on the subtle apple notes already characteristic of The Macallan — a fitting flavour for the ‘Big Apple’ — while offering the sweetness of classic American candy, with nods to peanut and chocolate. The aroma expresses a sweet and salty mix like a rising dough and a whisky of sidewalks, fresh rain and cherry blossom.

The sensation builds up on the palate with accents of baked apple and raisin, chocolate covered nuts, maple syrup and toasted waffles with a side of salted pecans — mmm.  Finishing it off, flavours of roasted nuts and sweet oak come through with uplifting citrus that represents the skyscrapers that dominate New York’s skyline.

Naturally, this whisky has the colour of City Sunrise — glistening amber hues of the sun coming up over the city skyline. The Macallan Distil Your World New York is housed in a striking white presentation box featuring an engraved map of New York, with the iconic Hudson and East River forming a U shape with Manhattan in the middle.

Its packaging also comes with touches of blue, alluding to the water surrounding the city as well as the towering architecture that reaches high into the sky. Similar positive and uplifting shade of blue can also be spotted on the bottle top and labelling.

Following the exploration, the Roca brothers has also created a special menu that reflects the city’s creative character and eclectic cuisine in a beautiful book that comes with the whisky. Watch the video below to learn more.
