The Macallan and Pantone come together for The Macallan Edition No. 5

Colour plays an important part in our everyday lives. It determines our mood for the rest of the day; it alters behaviour while also shaping our perspective on things. Colour is more than just something to look it, it’s become more of a feeling and a way of life. That is what The Macallan Edition No. 5 is all about with the help of the Pantone Colour Institute.

The Macallan Edition
The Macallan Edition No. 5 features a new and unique shade of Purple with the help of Pantone.

In its natural form, the colour of The Macallan whisky is a fundamental element. This happens when the whisky interacts with its oak casks where it matures, giving off the perfect shade ranging from the lightest oak to the deepest mahogany. This spectrum of colour is critical to the core of The Macallan with the Six Pillars.

Both The Macallan and Pantone are industry leaders in their respective fields. The Macallan with single malt Scotch whisky and Pantone a master of colour. Pantone provides plenty of insight and expertise in the world of colour, often predicting and determining colour trends of the future. This allows Pantone to leverage the market, working on the psychological and emotional aspect that colour plays on brands and businesses around the world.

The Macallan Edition
Pantone achieves this shade of purple by intricately mixing red and blue together.

With colour being an integral part of Pantone’s way of life, it made sense for them to team up with The Macallan to create a specific colour reflective of The Macallan Edition No. 5 single malt whisky. The result: a bold and unique shade of purple unlike anything else. It’s described as the ‘most enigmatic of shades’ due to its intricate combination of red and blue as well as being multi-faceted at the same time.

The special shade created just for The Macallan Edition No. 5 is all about celebrating the complexity and precision the whisky-maker goes through. The same can be said for colour creation as well. Both require meticulous skill, experience, and understanding when bringing together different components to create something entirely new.

To create the new shade of purple, Pantone mixes basic colours with precision to create a brand new shade. As for The Macallan Edition No. 5, it starts by having a complete understanding of a specific palette of colours from the cask. Matured spirits from different cask types and ages are then selected to create a distinct colour and character of the whisky.

Only American oak casks were selected as it’s known for its full flavour. This allows The Macallan Edition No. 5 to come with a wonderful flavour profile with a beautiful sunlit barley colour. It also comes with sweet notes of fresh fruit and caramel combined with oak spices.

In the end, The Macallan and Pantone have created a completely new look for The Macallan Edition No. 5. Its exclusive colour is only available for the single malt Scotch, which symbolises the importance of both colour and taste in a bottle of whisky.
