There are many brands out there that specialise in whisky, but one brand that stands out is definitely The Macallan. It sets itself apart from the various other distilleries around the world thanks to a connection with its customers. It’s more than just a whisky; it’s a way of life. The Macallan brand is all about making the call and doing the best one can in life. This is why The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old shares the same wavelength with Jun Wong, the Chef de Cuisine at Kikubari in DC Mall.

Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old
Chef Jun Wong of Kikubari, DC Mall.

Unlike many other chefs around the world, chef Jun Wong did not enter the industry until she was 22. This was when she took her first step into haute cuisine in French kitchens to find her passion. Her storied resume makes for some great insights: mentored by Cilantro’s very own executive chef Takashi Kimura as well as working at some of the finest Michelin-starred restaurants around the world like Robuchon au Dôme in Macau, Narisawa in Tokyo, as well as Le Petit Flot and Sixpenny in Sydney.

After spending five years abroad honing her skills in the kitchen, Wong came back to spearhead Kikubari, a progressive Japanese restaurant that focuses on quality ingredients and sustainable practices. Kikubari is still somewhat a newcomer into KL’s fine dining scene – it bridges the gap between classical cuisines like French and Japanese with a contemporary and innovative approach.

Similar to The Macallan’s philosophy, Kikubari is also all about introducing people to the greater side that life has to offer. As for The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old, it’s a single malt whisky with many different connotations. It’s a drink that requires no introduction; a drink that many will toast to for a celebration, an achievement, or a significant milestone. It’s all about making the call and going with your gut feeling.
