Alia Bastamam is no stranger to the local fashion scene. Her rising to fame is a story of pure hard work since the talented designer started venturing into the industry in 2010 from a small workshop designing made-to-measure bridalwear. Since then, the fashion moghul continues to highlight ready-to-wear pieces that cradle between the notion of relaxed resort silhouettes and crisp clean cuts.

Nine years down the road, Alia Bastamam is treading on international waters for the first time with the brand’s inaugural appearance in Milan Fashion Week; showcasing her latest Spring/Summer 2020 collection.

This season, Alia Bastamam brings life to romance novel paperbacks where lush, flowing silhouettes create a fantasy for the contemporary woman. She injects androgynous cuts to break the sensuous resort mood with an extra edge. Expect new colours also in her repertoire as the collection starts with a glossary of tangerine and desert sky-blue to pastel rose and lilac. Shades of green, gold, pink and brick assembled in Ikat prints are also introduced as homage to the romance in the Nusantara — Alia Bastamam wants to stay true to her roots with a modernised touch to heritage.

“For 2020, the romance novel heroine is no longer the damsel in distress, instead she is the armoured warrior, the primeval beauty,” she said in her press statement.

Here’s a lowdown on Alia Bastamam’s latest Spring/Summer 2020 collection to be showcased in Milan.
