The fall/winter 2019 season is finally over with a mix of highs and lows. New York Fashion Week kicked off to a wonderful start – Michael Kors threw a party inspired by his Studio 54 past with a 70s style show and even had the legendary Barry Manilow perform his 1978 hit “Copacabana” to close the show.
Then, there was Milan Fashion Week with a slew of quirks and whimsy from Moncler’s super creative exhibition-like fashion showcase worthy of a setup in MoMA. That week also marked the death of fashion savant Karl Lagerfeld, which was followed by one of the most solemn shows during Fendi’s Fall/Winter presentation. However, it was also a show to remember as guests were moved by Lagerfeld’s final collection.
Gucci then pieced together an interstellar performance in a literally blinding runway show exaggerated with elaborate masks, earpieces, bags, eyeglasses, headgears, and spiked chokers – taking the definition of ‘accessorising’ to a whole new level. Other Italian fashion houses stayed true to their roots and heritage – contemporising iconic pieces from their respective archives like Fendi’s Baguette as well as the reinterpretation of Bottega Veneta’s envelope clutch and runway pieces in its signature intrecciato leather weave.
