Bags, Buckles and BDSM: Our favourite looks from Versace Men’s FW19 show

The house of Versace is known for pushing the boundaries and breaking all the rules in menswear by challenging conventions and stereotypes. For its Fall/Winter 2019 collection, Versace debuts its own interpretation of a certain kind of bondage trend on Milan Men’s Fashion Week runway.

The collection includes Versace’s signature bold colours, flamboyant prints and over-the-top looks. But also in the Fall/Winter lineup are belts, harnesses, boxing pants and a lot of leather — soften by small shoulder bags in all shades. Versace injects the BDSM vibes into each piece by adding its own touch of straps, gold buckles, studs and more — but of course, in a very elegant and likeable way. Showing how it’s done is Bella Hadid who walked the runway in a stunning head-to-toe studded look with a belt-strapped bralette and a Y-shaped embellished harness wrapped in a studded puffer jacket.

Sharp tailored suits with safety pins are paired with see-through plastic pants and bondage-printed silk shirts — something you’d never see Versace without. Embroidered lace details line the edges of its knitwear and worn with the most classic Prince-of-Wales pants and the Chain Reaction sneakers. According to Donatella Versace, these layered looks and the seemingly random clash of elements, accessories, colours and shapes give men the possibility and guts to push the extent of masculinity and to tell their own story. Here are our top picks from the Versace Men’s Fall/Winter 2019 show.
