Burberry’s crisp, structured, and preppy style will soon undergo a punk makeover — for a limited time only. Just recently, Burberry and Vivienne Westwood take it upon social media to announce their collaboration that is due to release in December 2018.
Riccardo Tisci, who previously held the position of creative director at French fashion house Givenchy for 12 years, will be collaborating with the original British punk brand, Vivienne Westwood for a limited edition collection. It is said that the collection will be re-imagining iconic styles, in celebration of British fashion and heritage.
“Vivienne Westwood was one of the first designers who made me dream of becoming a designer myself and when I first started at Burberry, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to approach her to do something. She is a rebel, a punk and unrivalled in her unique representation of British style, which has inspired so many of us. I am so incredibly proud of what we will be creating together,” said Riccardo Tisci, now chief creative officer of Burberry.
This is also Tisci’s first collaboration under the Burberry brand since he took over the reins as the chief creative officer back in March 2018. While Tisci has yet to make any official debut of his first collection under the brand (his first will be at London Fashion Week this September 2018), that along with this unique collaboration has definitely caught the world’s attention. Two huge British labels, each with their own unique sense of style — we’re looking forward to seeing how their reimagined version of British heritage will turn out on the runway.
That’s not all. As Westwood is not only notable for her grungy vibes, she is very much active when it comes to environmental activism. This collaboration will be in support of Cool Earth, a non-profit organisation that works alongside rainforest communities to put a stop to deforestation and climate change. Stay tuned.
