The entertainment industry may be on full blast right now with Game of Thrones and Avengers, but let’s settle for some fashion news shall we?
Sustainable fashion is on a significant rise recently thanks to a stronger awareness on World Earth Day and perhaps the Netflix documentary ‘Our Planet’ may have smacked some sense into the fashion industry. LVMH Prize nominee Emily Bode’s AW2019 collection is made out of repurposed antique textiles that she has collected over the years. Some of the materials even dated back to the early 1900s, which she then repaired by hand and breathed new life into them by implementing appliqués, quilting and patchworks. She’s not the only designer involved in this movement, Italian brand Salvatore Ferragamo has also gotten involved — you can read on below. Here are our newest fashion obsessions.
Salvatore Ferragamo 42 Degrees collection
Everyone is becoming more conscious of the environment. As such, brands like Salvatore Ferragamo are taking the step to join the bandwagon by releasing 42 Degrees collection, dedicated to fashion enthusiasts who care about the future of the planet. Everything in the collection is made solely from sustainable materials and components from Italy. This 4-piece collection, consisting of men and women’s sneakers, a bag pack and shopping bag, is designed by Flavia Corridori and Luciano Dimotta. Staying true to their Sustainable Thinking project, the components sourced are indeed sustainable. For example, the leather used is developed using wet white chrome and metal free tanning.
GUESS x J Balvin
The latest celebrity to collaborate with GUESS is reggaeton singer, J Balvin — which also makes him the first Latin man to front a GUESS campaign. He brought his designing skills to the table and released a 42-piece capsule collection with the brand that is very much inspired by his album ‘Vibras’. The pieces embodied the energy of ‘Vibras’, which is something fun and just full of good vibes which the artist himself also represents. “Everything in this capsule is very ’90s Miami inspired,” Balvin told Billboard. The GUESS x J Balvin collection is available in stores now.
Anya Hindmarch Neeson bag
Express your thoughts and opinions on an Anya Hindmarch Neeson bag. The collection consists of hand-woven totes and crossbody bags that take several days to make, and it’s available in two sizes with long rainbow fringed tassels. You can also have it customised by weaving in names, initials or symbols using brightly coloured or contrasting leather strips. It’ll be one of a kind in the world as you get to weave in almost anything you want.
Fendi’s SS19 belt bag
Belt bags have proven their convenience multiple times. Your hands will always be free and your necessities are safely tucked away. If you have yet to add one to your collection, this would be the one. Featured in Fendi‘s Spring Summer 2019 Accessories Collection, this is one designed slightly different compared to the usual pouch and zip ones you see. It’s a multi-accessory belt, featuring removable phone pocket, multipurpose pocket, key ring and clip — a functional design by Silvia Venturini Fendi. The bag is also seen in Astrid S‘s newest single, Someone New.
