Iconic celebrity sneaker collaborations worth breaking the bank for

No name is bigger in the world of streetwear right now than Virgil Abloh. The Off-White head honcho and Louis Vuitton artistic director knew no bounds when he dropped ‘The Ten’, which comprised some of Nike’s most iconic sneakers but given a modern and contemporary twist in terms of design. Soon after, more colourways started emerging from the original 10 sneakers, gaining massive traction along the way. The most iconic sneaker from that collection, the Air Jordan 1 Off-White ‘Chicago’, is also the most sought after piece given the rich history of the actual Jordan 1 ‘Chicago’.

If there’s one name that’s big enough for the entire sneaker community, it’s Travis Scott. The American rapper, singer, and producer has come up with some of the greatest designs in recent history, changing the foundation Nike has built for its sneakers and giving it a new and creative look. Some of his signature sneakers include the Air Jordan 1 Cactus Jack with the reverse Swoosh and the Air Force 1 Low ‘Sail’ to name a few. Scott is also known for bringing unique colourways to other Air Jordan staples like the 4s and 6s.

Yeezy has been the centre of the sneaker world for a long time now, especially since his departure from Nike to Adidas in 2013. Ever since then, the Yeezy brand has only gone in an upwards trajectory with brand new releases and restocks every few months. Yeezy has also gone on to revolutionise how sneakers are designed and looked at. Instead of being something that was meant to be practical, Kanye gave his shoes its own look and identity, ensuring that its designs are unlike any you’ve seen before. The Yeezy 350 V2 and the Waverunner 700 are some of its most popular pairs to date.

Another Adidas associate of Kanye’s is none other than Pharrell Williams. Aside from having his very own Chanel capsule collection, Pharrell also has his own line of sneakers with Adidas Originals, injecting an overdose of colour and creativity into its designs. Pharrell worked primarily with the Adidas NMD by giving it a twist by adding flashier colourways while also throwing in other collabs like with Human Made, the Japanese streetwear brand founded by none other than Nigo, the founder of A Bathing Ape and a personal friend of Pharrell.

Founder of streetwear label Fear of God, Jerry Lorenzo is one of the biggest names to grace the stage of streetwear. While his on-going collaboration with Nike is still going strong, it was his work with Vans that really set him apart from the rest. He took the everyday Old-Skool Vans and put a unique twist to it, blending the Fear of God monogram onto the sneakers in different designs. This paved the way for his Nike collabs, introducing the Nike Air Fear of God sneakers in multiple colourways.
