This new collaboration merges form and function.
Fashion and photography have always been intrinsically linked. Think of all the legendary collaborations that have graced the glossy pages of fashion magazines, like Richard Avedon and Versace, Glen Luchford and Prada (and, two decades later, Gucci), or Juergen Teller and Marc Jacobs.
Ermenegildo Zegna is now bringing the two worlds together beyond the page through a new collaboration with Leica. Yes, the same German brand that has produced cult favourite cameras like the Diana, the Q2 or those in the M series.
The Leica | Zegna Collection, which we got a peek at during the latter’s Fall/Winter 2020 show, features a range of luxury camera accessories. The capsule combines Zegna’s Italian craftsmanship with Leica’s commitment to offer the best to photographers — with stunning results.
One of them is the holster, made especially for the Leica Q2 and Leica M cameras. The sleek accessory is crafted from the finest veal leather, which is all the more luxurious because it features Zegna’s trademark PelleTessuta weave.
The complex technique, which involves taking thin strands of leather and intricately weaving them on a loom, produces a material that is durable, supple and lightweight — something that shutterbugs will appreciate when they slot their cameras in and strap the holster across their shoulder.
Thankfully, the PelleTessuta also makes an appearance across the rest of the stylish accessories from the Leica | Zegna collection. There’s the “Insta-pack”, an everyday cross-body bag that marries fashion and function; in it, you can store your compact Leica camera, along with your other daily essentials like your smartphone, your wallet and more. There’s also a protector designed especially for the Leica Q2 camera, which does double duty as both a practical covering and an elegant accessory.
The capsule also includes the small stuff — carrying straps, wrist straps, key rings and wallets — all made with the same attention to detail as Zegna’s menswear collections. Coming in These versatile, handcrafted accessories work well with most Leica cameras, even the pre-loved, vintage models that you bought off eBay.
Just like those cameras, the Leica | Zegna collection is timeless. That’s something the two collaborators would know all about. Leica has been producing top-notch cameras since 1914, providing for enthusiasts around the world as they shifted from analogue to digital photography. Zegna, meanwhile, is celebrating it’s 110th anniversary this year; this capsule is just one of the many ways the Italian fashion brand is marking the milestone.
It’s also worth noting that Zegna designer Alessandro Sartori is a Leica fan and a photographer himself, which explains the nuanced design of every piece in the collection. As he told Leica’s LFI magazine, “[The collection] is designed to make you feel at one with your equipment… It’s not about storing your camera, but about having a relationship with it, keeping it on you and having instant access whenever you need it.”
