Olivier Theyskens has been announced as the new artistic director of the fashion house Azzaro.

The Franco-Belgian fashion designer will take the reins at the Parisian house, succeeding the previous artistic director Maxime Simoëns and overseeing its couture collections and ready-to-wear lines for womenswear and menswear. According to WWD, he will also continue to head up his successful eponymous fashion label.

“I am excited, thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity of bringing my vision to this legendary, iconoclastic House, for which freedom and pleasure remain ever-as-contemporary founding values,” Theyskens is quoted as saying, as per the Azzaro Instagram account. “I would like to carry on this atypical universe through my collections while infusing them with my own perspective.”

In an interview with WWD, the creative, whose previous tenures include working at Rochas and Nina Ricci, added: “I always want to create something relevant for the house and for the name I work for. So I feel very free to not necessarily do things in a certain way. I think the most important thing is being inspired by how your creation has a natural tendency to meet with what should be done for the brand, and that’s the fuel I have. That’s what I’m looking for.”

Theyskens will unveil his first designs for Azzaro during Haute Couture Week in Paris this July.
