The fashion brand will be debuting its new collection on its own schedule.
Given the circumstances raised by the continuing global pandemic of CoVid-19, where every business across the globe has been put on a pause and forced to radically change in its models and strategies, the fashion industry, too, has been drastically hit.
As a response to adapt to the coronavirus crisis, Saint Laurent has just announced its decision to pull out from Paris Fashion Week, which is scheduled for September. Instead, the brand will be setting its own pace, reshaping its schedule ‘following a plan conceived with an up-to-date perspective, driven by creativity’.
“Now more than ever, the brand will lead its own rhythm, legitimating the value of time and connecting with people globally by getting closer to them in their own space and lives,” said in a statement released by the brand.
“The CoViD-19 pandemic has forced us to suddenly and completely change our habits, behaviour, and interactions with others,” Anthony Vaccarello, creative director of Saint Laurent, explains the decision in an exclusive interview with WWD. “Our decision not to be part of any predefined calendar this year stems from our desire to recognise the importance of our time, of our life,” he continued. “What’s out of fashion now is the schedule of the entire system: the shows, the showrooms, the orders.”
This announcement follows the cancellation of Paris’ men’s and haute couture fashion weeks, which were slate for June and July, as well as the adjustment for London fashion week, scheduled for September.
