Sony’s PlayStation division signs up Travis Scott as a strategic creative planner, along with his own sneaker of course.
2020 has been nothing but a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. While COVID-19 remains to be the prevalent issue, the world of tech and gaming shone brighter than ever. One of the more notable standouts has to be the imminent debut of the much anticipated Sony PlayStation 5 (PS5).
The next-gen gaming console is slated for a 19th November 2020 global release date. Sadly, there still isn’t much news on its release in Malaysia; fret not though because this is bigger than just that. 2020 has also seen the likes of Travis Scott creating huge waves — his work with Fortnite for a virtual concert as well as collaborating with the likes of McDonald’s for a limited time only burger. Let’s also not forget the sneakers that he’s dropped along the way.
As stated in its official blogpost, PlayStation moved to work with Scott due to him being an avid fan. The announcement was rolled out with a short black-and-white video, kicking off the unexpected partnership. The video first showcased the team that worked on the PS5, dressed from head-to-toe in Cactus Jack merch. It also gave avid sneakerheads a preview of the never-before-seen Travis Scott x PlayStation Nike Dunk Lows.
Known for teasing fans of his upcoming sneaker drops, the Travis Scott x PlayStation Nike Dunk Lows looks just as real as it can get. Some of the biggest giveaways are the signature Swooshes as well as the PS logo on the heel of the sneakers. Aside from the sneaker preview, it also shows Scott starting up the PS5 with the next-gen DualSense controller. Soon after, Scott is seen being blown away by what the PS5 can offer.
It’s not every day that a name like PlayStation and Travis Scott come together, but it’s not all that surprising as well. Scott has a major influence in the world of fashion, music, streetwear, and now video games. His collab with PlayStation isn’t all that surprising either, given that his fan base is mostly teens and young adults — all of whom will probably want to buy a PS5.
This is what Scott had to say after PlayStation made it official that he will be coming on as a strategic creative planner.
“I’m really looking forward to being able to showcase everything that Cactus Jack has worked on with Sony and the PlayStation team. Most importantly I’m excited to see how the PlayStation fans and family responds, and I look forward to running some games with everybody very soon!”
