Sustainable fashion is the need of the hour and luxury lifestyle brand Stella McCartney knows this only too well. The fashion label’s new Sustainable Boot, in collaboration with iconic British footwear brand Hunter, is a step in the right direction.
The boot is made of natural rubber sourced from sustainably-managed, certified forests in Guatemala. This also means that no rainforests were touched in the process and that the wellbeing of workers and local communities continue to be a priority.
In keeping with the sustainable ethos of the boot, the sock insert is made from a plant-based derivative called Yulex–a far greener alternative to commonly used neoprene inners. This material generates 80 per cent less carbon dioxide while retaining the strength and elasticity that is expected of the product.
Hunter, best known for their handcrafted Original Boot, has been using natural rubber since 1856. With Stella McCartney positioning itself as a vegan, cruelty-free and eco-friendly brand, the synergy was obvious. When these two brands joined forces, the result was nothing short of spectacular. The Sustainable Boot debuted at the Winter Runway Show in Paris 2019 and is a re-interpretation of the Hunter Wellington Boot. It features hand-made treads and soles with sock inserts and webbed logo pull-tabs lending an athletic aesthetic.
The boot is available in black, olive and clatter grey for men and women from September onwards.
