It’s time to welcome ugly shoes back into our lives.

Summer is on its way, bringing with it a host of vintage accessories, with beads, natural materials and fashion items straight from the 1970s and ’90s. And, for a seasonal dose of nostalgia, clogs will also be on the agenda, further confirming this year’s wave of interest in ugly shoes — a trend we could maybe have done without.

It may be the news your feet didn’t want to hear in these early days of summer, but so-called ugly shoes are taking hold of fashion, with more and more followers around the world. After Crocs, jelly sandals and wedge sneakers, the time has come to embrace clogs. It’s definitely set to be a summer like no other. These clunky shoes with wooden soles are making a comeback this season. And why not, if it also means incurring the wrath of your colleagues…

Clogs are back

From the runways to the feet of the biggest fashion icons to fashion show street looks, clogs are everywhere right now, accessorizing long skirts, as well as short dresses, overalls or jeans. According to the latest report from the global fashion search platform Stylight, clicks for clogs increased by 85% in Spring 2021, also showing that the Cottagecore trend is still going strong.

Slides, but make them platform slides

And while we’re on the subject of ugly shoes, platform slides also look set to be big news this summer. Evidently not hideous enough in their classic version, slides are ramping up their ugly credentials this season with a chunky platform sole. Clicks for this shoe category were up 89% this spring.

Rustic wicker is cool now

Like every year, summer bag styles are landing in the finest natural materials. And this year, wicker is shaping up to be one of the stars of the season — a must-have for accessorizing chic and rustic looks — with wicker bags spotted in all shapes and sizes. Stylight reports an 88% increase in search interest for the “wicker bag” keyword on Google in May 2021.

But wait, there’s more…

Also according to the report, summer 2021 will bring beaded bracelets, letter pendants, canvas bags and 1970s-inspired glasses to the top of the trend agenda.
