In terms of shoes, the Spring/Summer 2021 season is a pretty democratic one.

Yes, that means that we’re no longer limited to sneakers (although quite a few of them made it to our must-have list). For those who are obsessed with Bottega Veneta’s sculptural heels, the Italian brand has a new range of minimalist styles to step into this spring. Balenciaga, meanwhile, has tweaked its cult Track sneakers once again, creating a pair of spin-off mules that you’re going to see everywhere on Instagram.

But perhaps the buzziest shoe release of all goes to Marine Serre’s collaboration with Jimmy Choo. The French designer has been steadily on the rise; you can tell by the fact that her signature moon print is pretty much ubiquitous now, sported by the likes of Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Kylie Jenner and more. This season, her futuristic aesthetic has been imparted on a range of shoes, including Jimmy Choo’s iconic Faro pumps, all made from upcycled materials.

London menswear designer Wales Bonner is back with another Adidas collaboration. On top of introducing new Samba styles, which were a hit with the likes of Alexa Chung and Bella Hadid last season, Wales Bonner has also taken on Adidas’ 70s basketball-inspired sneakers, Nizza. The retro sneakers now come in designs that nod to the Caribbean and dancehall music scenes, with colourways like navy, purple and off-white (pictured).

If there’s any brand that’s going to successfully make women wear heels in the age of sneakers and slides, it’s Bottega Veneta. This season, the Italian label has unveiled a chunky silhouette known as “Stack”, which features a square peep-toe and a block heel with sculptural curves. For now, it’s available as slingbacks, mules and pumps (pictured) in the Zen-like hues of “Sea Salt” and “Cane Sugar”, but you can expect more vibrant hues to match with the brand’s ready-to-wear pieces.

Looking for the most unique pair of sneakers you’ll ever own? Try the new Valentino Garavani Crochet sneakers, each of which are the results of 10 hours of macramè crochet work. That’s right: except for the rubber sole, the entire shoe is knitted by hand. Besides being a remarkable show of craftsmanship that totally justifies its thousand-dollar price tag, the new shoes are also great to style with other trendy knitwear pieces in your wardrobe.

We regret to inform you that Uggs are a thing now. In the last few seasons, the brand behind those unsightly sheepskin boots has had several sell-out collaborations with Sacai, Bape and Echaus Latta, as well as a highly anticipated one with Telfar in the works. For S/S 2021, it teamed up with London designer Molly Goddard — a favourite of Rihanna’s and Rosamund Pike’s — to reimagine its chunky boots with floral appliques. If that’s not your thing, you can also choose from shearling slippers and flatform mules, the latter of which is giving us flashbacks to the days when everyone wore Boy London.

A new season, a new sneaker. Loewe has unveiled the track-inspired “Flow Runner” sneakers, which come with streamlined nylon and suede uppers. Like the brand’s Ballet Runner sneakers, this new style is stitched with Loewe’s cursive “L” logo on the side. You can get a pair in any one of the many colourways available, including honey and black (pictured), grey and brown, and an all-black pair.

The Archlight sneakers aren’t exactly new, but this edition sure is. It’s a part of Louis Vuitton’s new Summer 2021 capsule which was unveiled at the ArtScience Museum last week. Like the rest of the collection of swimwear and beach essentials, the new sneakers are coloured in a sunset-inspired gradient. They also come printed with the French brand’s initials and Monogram Flowers on the side, altogether creating the effect of a pair of tie-dyed sneakers. If that doesn’t scream “summer”, we don’t know what does.

If wearing Marine Serre sunglasses and bodysuits aren’t enough of a flex for you, you can now throw on some Marine Serre shoes, too. The buzzy French designer has partnered with the iconic shoe label Jimmy Choo to create six new footwear styles, ranging from ankle boots and pumps to sneakers. These are all decked out in Serre’s new geometric print, the “Moon Lozenge”. It’s only a matter of time until you see the knee-high boots (pictured) everywhere on Instagram.

Following up from the sack shoe-inspired sneakers, ASICS and Vivienne Westwood are getting kinky on their new collaboration. This time, the two labels looked to Westwood’s infamous “Sex” collection from 1974, which featured leather bondage and latex rubber ensembles for the office. The new GEL – KAYANO™ 27 LTX sneakers, available in three colours, draw on that that highly-charged mood: it features an upper with rubber stocking seams, a statement zip and an inner sock that looks like rubber tights. As Missy Elliot would say, get your freak on.

You’ve seen the Track sneakers, the Track slides and the Track sandals; now say hello to the Track Mules, the latest mutation of Balenciaga’s famous sneakers. Available in four colours (including a very trendy bright pink), the Track Mules feature the distinctively complex, anatomy-inspired uppers that are a signature of all of Balenciaga’s Track shoes.
