Creative directors in the fashion industry flit across brands as quickly as the seasons come and go. The latest news comes from Italian luxury leather goods label, Tod’s, with the announcement of its new creative director. Milanese designer Walter Chiapponi will take the reins of Tod’s men’s and women’s collections, with his debut scheduled for the brand’s Autumn/Winter 2020 release.
Chiapponi may not be a big name in fashion just yet, but the new creative director has an extensive resume working in the industry since the ’90s, with stints in Valentino, Gucci, Miu Miu and Bottega Veneta — all evidence that he is steeped in the thick of Italian style and luxury.
“Walter Chiapponi is a talented Italian creative, who knows and is able to combine Tod’s Italian lifestyle with a touch of modernity, without ever losing sight of the high quality and craftsmanship that represents the brand’s DNA. I welcome him and wish him well in his new role,” declared Diego Della Valle, president of Tod’s Group.
Chiapponi’s first collection will be available in Tod’s boutiques worldwide next fall.
