So the athleisure trend isn’t new — we know that. But it’s still going strong, and remains a popular style in light of today’s fitness trends. Even former POTUS, Barack Obama loves himself a bit of athleisure. If you look at it, athleisure isn’t all that bad. After all, to be able to go out in public wearing sweatpants with sneakers and call it stylish is a welcome respite compared to rollerskating stiletto heels.
What exactly counts as athleisure? The word has even been added into Merriam Webster’s unabridged dictionary and is defined as “casual clothing designed to be worn both for exercising and for general use”. Simply put, it’s anything that can take you from the gym to any other appointments you have for the day ahead. Examples include pairing a shirt with sweatpants, sports leggings with sneakers jazzed up with a denim jacket, or wearing a tracksuit set. Here’s a tip on nailing this chic yet sporty style: Keep your workout pieces to a maximum of two items in your ensemble, and pair these with one structured piece of clothing to look less sloppy.

If you’re out of ideas on how to pair outfits, always stick to monochromatic tones, like Jane Lau does here. She keeps it simple with black and white, but the focus is obviously on her Adidas track pants and Yeezys. She shows off a teensy bit of skin with a fitted cropped top so the overall look isn’t sloppy.

If you need the ultimate guide to nailing athleisure, Ashley Lau is your girl. She’s not afraid of incorporating bold colours into her athleisure aesthetic, like this striking pair of red track pants. She gets extra style points for tucking in an oversized T-shirt to make her legs look longer.

Glam up an otherwise slouchy hoodie-and-sweatpants combination with red lips and reflective Wayfarers like how Karen Kho did whilst on holiday. May we add that athleisure is the perfect style to take on your travels — not only are you on point, you’re also always comfortable.

Petite lady Vivi Soong always knows how to dress in proportion to make herself look taller. Take cue from her by pairing track pants with a teeny cropped top — the black cap matches the overall monochromatic look, while an oxblood bomber jacket offsets the all-black outfit.

You may be wearing workout clothes, but that doesn’t mean you actually need to sweat. Pair your outfit with shorts like how Lucas Lau does here. The all-black ensemble consists of a basic T-shirt, shorts, jacket and cap, and is polished off by a pair of silver sneakers.

Actress Jasmine Suraya Chin puts a sexy spin on the athleisure style with Puma. Take your cue from her and pair printed track pants with a loose basic sweater. Black high-top sneakers give the outfit some street edge, and a messy top-knot is the perfect finishing touch.
