Pearls are often thought of as classic jewellery pieces, but they’re given a stylish and genderless update with this new collaboration.
Japanese jeweller Mikimoto, known for its history as a pioneer and creator of cultured pearls, just rolled out an unexpected collaborative collection with Comme des Garçons, which features a capsule line of seven pearl necklaces targeting both men and women.
As revealed in our recent interview with Mikimoto’s Managing Director, Yasuhiko Hashimoto, the partnership came as a response to the growing popularity of pearl jewellery in the menswear scene, and the Mikimoto x Comme des Garçons collection comes in designs that blend the sensual White South Sea or Akoya Mikimoto pearls with Comme des Garçons logos or silver links commonly seen on chunky chain necklaces in bold, statement-making styles.
The Mikimoto x Comme des Garçons capsule collection, with price tags that range from US$2,800 to US$39,000 (approx. RM11k to RM160k) is scheduled to launch in mid-February at Mikimoto’s Ginza store, as well as select Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market stores across the globe.
