Face Time: Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis showcases the brand’s first multi-axis tourbillon

When it comes to the current chapter of the Manufacture Piece (MP) collection, Hublot is all about being seen. Its latest masterpiece, the MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis, puts the double rotation of a bi-axial tourbillon front and centre in a rare design that’s both powerful and mesmerising.

Available in titanium and 18k King Gold, this Baselworld 2017 novelty favourite beats to the rhythm of calibre HUB9009.H1.RA – a unique self-winding skeleton movement that operates at 3Hz. Not only can it pack up a power reserve to last the wearer up to five days, it also provides water resistance of up to 30 metres.

The Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis in King Gold features the brand’s first multi-axis tourbillon, which was specifically designed to provide visibility of its range of movement.

The watch features an axis that completes one full rotation per minute, and another one that does it in 30 seconds. Tapering at six o’clock, this overcomes the effects of gravity in a subtler manner than an ordinary tourbillon. What’s even more impressive is that you can view its range of motion from various angles through a three-sided sapphire crystal.

A display this dramatic deserves a satin-finished and polished 18k king gold case that can match its sophistication. Measuring 49mm in diameter and 17.95mm thick, this big, bold case is fitted to a black structured line rubber strap with a matching gold clasp. It also features a dial multi-layered in black, red, and white decals with a gold-plated counter on the upper right hand. The lever system at nine o’clock (that moves the date indicator forward and backward) also lends a nice touch.

The three-sided, step-down pattern of this captivating timepiece’s sapphire crystal provides a spectacular view of Hublot’s unique double-axis tourbillon.

The detailed construction of this 356-component timepiece is also hard to ignore. Just peek at the back of the case and you’ll notice its grey-coated anthracite bridges, and the polished rhodium-plated balance. This distinct design, obviously, is difficult to manufacture. It’s no wonder Hublot decided to create only 20 pieces in a captivating 18k king gold bezel and case with upper and lower plates.

Retailing at RM950,100, you can own this gorgeous timepiece — also the most expensive piece in Hublot’s Baselworld 2017 Novelties collection — by placing an order at the Hublot boutique in Suria KLCC. The first batch of the limited edition timepiece will be delivered to Kuala Lumpur as early as October this year.
