Jaeger-LeCoultre has long standing relationships with some of the best film festivals all over the world. This year, the brand celebrates 8 remarkable years supporting the Shanghai Film Festival, especially in the restoration of classic Chinese films. The watchmaker has invested huge amounts of energy and money into preserving historical works of art for future generations, including dozens of Chinese classics from the 1930s and 1940s, such as A Spring River Flows East, Stage Sisters and modern Hong Kong classics like A Better Tomorrow and Endless Love.

Rendez-Vous Night & Day Tribute to Cinema

At the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival, Jaeger-LeCoultre presented a unique timepiece to be auctioned off, with all proceeds used to finance the next restorations of classics in the Chinese film industry. The specially crafted ‘Rendez-Vous Night & Day Tribute to Cinema Pièce Unique SIFF 2018’ is fitted into a diamond-set rose gold case, red dial and alligator strap. With a feminine appeal and a classic elegance, the day & night indicator at 6 o’clock, exudes a timelessness that embodies the Maison’s love for the screen.

At this year’s festival, the watchmaker unveiled a newly restored version of the legendary biographical film Painting Soul, starring the gorgeous Gong Li. Li plays the painter in the film adaptation of Chinese writer, Shi Nan’s beloved novel. By correcting ageing and degradation issues the physical film had suffered, audiences noticed improvements in clarity, contrast and sound effects. The presentations further impressed upon the importance of conserving film as a cultural heritage for future generations to study and enjoy.

On top of that, Jaeger-LeCoultre is also adding three new models to the Rendez-Vous collection. Blurring the lines between haute horology and high jewellery, these iconic timepieces showcase the watchmaker’s expertise. By reinterpreting a number of functions on such a classic line, the brand has reinvigorated the Rendez-Vous with more feminine finesse than ever before.

 215 hand-set diamonds on the Rendez-Vous Tourbillon

Rendez-Vous Tourbillon
With every new interpretation designed by the engineers and artisans of the Maison, this watch complication offers a captivating, almost hypnotic spectacle. The halo of brilliant-cut diamonds glittering on the bezel adds to this sensation, mirrored on a smaller scale in the centre of the dial and around the tourbillon. They include the 215 hand-set diamonds with the pink gold models embellished with mother-of-pearl. Its precious materials transform the watch into a piece of jewellery.

At 6 o’clock, the tourbillon reveals its spectacularly complex system of predominantly hand-decorated gears. Seemingly suspended in mid-air, its balance wheel oscillates within the carriage to perform one revolution every 60 seconds — setting the beat of its high-precision automatic movement, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 978.

The Rendez-Vous Célestial has an intricate and feminine sky map

Rendez-Vous Celestial
Fitted with the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 809/1, these two new interpretations of the Rendez-Vous Celestial have a sky map, encircled by a dazzling bezel. It is set with either a display of pink sapphires shifting into shades of amethyst or with brilliant-cut diamonds. Enhanced by a constantly moving star, the dial displays the changing constellations and signs of the zodiac, which are enamelled in shades of either pink-gold or silver.
