The Olympics’ official timekeeper is back with 3 new Seamaster models to gear up for 2021’s biggest sporting event.
With athletes competing in 339 events across 33 sports, the upcoming Tokyo Olympics will require the most technical timekeeping capabilities. Thankfully, OMEGA is back for its 29th gig as the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games. Since its inaugural event at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, OMEGA’s 90 years of experience ensures the most accurate time recordings and score readings across various sporting events. Requiring 4000 tonnes of state-of-the-art equipment, the Tokyo 2020 Games is OMEGAs biggest event to date.
But besides on-site timekeeping, OMEGA has also launched 3 new timepieces to commemorate the event. We’re noticing an emphasis on watches for marine activities. The Seamaster model is front and center for this new line of specialties.
Whether you’re spectating the aquatic events in real life or watching from home, here are some suggestions for the best Olympic events to pair these new watches with.
Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition
Sports: Aquatics, synchronised swimming, water polo
Can’t wait to discover the next Michael Phelps in the pool lanes? The Seamaster Aqua Terra may be for you. This sporty Tokyo 2020 model comes in a ceramic dial – a first for any Seamaster model.
It is crafted in a polished blue finish that evokes the visual of swimming pool tiles. With 150 metres of water resistance, it performs just as well underwater as it does on land. The 41 millimetre case is built from stainless steel. The sapphire crystal caseback is emblazoned with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games emblem.
In addition to the structured blue rubber strap, it also comes with a stainless steel bracelet so you can switch up your look across different sporting events. It’s powered by the OMEGA Master Chronometer Calibre 8900, ensuring the most precise and magnetic-resistant timekeeping. As a reflection of the year of this event, the watch is limited to 2020 pieces.
Seamaster Planet Ocean Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition
Sports: Triathlon, sailing, aquatics
If you’re more of an outdoor water sports type of person, the Seamaster Planet Ocean will suit your taste for adventure. The watch’s 600 meters of water resistance means you can wear it for a swim in the ocean, and it’ll withstand any challenge you put it through.
For this special Tokyo 2020 edition, the watch’s 39.5 millimetre dial is decked in a white ceramic bezel ring. The 20-minute indicator filled with red liquid ceramic is a nod to the year of Tokyo 2020. Against the white dial, a varnished red dot sits at the tip of the seconds hand, which represents the flag of Japan.
Powered by the OMEGA Master Chronometer Calibre 8800, it features a sapphire crystal casebook with a transferred Tokyo 2020 emblem. Like the Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020, this watch is only available in 2020 pieces.
Seamaster Diver 300M Tokyo 2020
Sports: Diving, open-water swimming, triathlon
There’s no better watch that represents the Olympic sport of diving than the Seamaster Diver, but OMEGA wants you to know this watch is also built with underwater ocean diving in mind.
The watch’s 42 millimetre stainless steel case guarantees extreme durability in outdoor conditions. Additionally, the indexes are filled with Super-LumiNova to ensure visibility under deep waters, and the watch is water-resistant up to 300 metres. Powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8800, it is one of only a select few watches officially certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).
Surrounded by a blue ceramic bezel, the watch’s polished white ceramic dial is engraved with waves, to reflect its aquatic theme. The famous Seamaster name is highlighted in red, right by the date window at 6 o’clock. Like the rest of the collection, you’ll find the Tokyo 2020 emblem on the sapphire crystal caseback.
